The World of Suzie Wong - William Holden (1960) - Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan

Another Hong Kong-set William Holden film. Seems as though Holden was a big fan of HK and owned several properties here over his lifetime (I believe one of them was a house on Lantau Island that he shared with Stephanie Powers).

Co-starring Nancy Kwan who, at the time, was an unknown, the film also used many areas around HK and Kowloon. The following scene shows the notorious Nam Kok Hotel in which Holden's character rents a room - supposedly set in Wanchai the scene was actually filmed at the intersection between Hollywood Rd and Ladder St. Far left you can see the corner of the famous Man Mo Temple.

The building you can see on the film no longer exists, don't know when it came down but the area is still fairly recognisable even today. Here is a shot of the same block looking up towards the steps on Ladder St (which also feature in the film later on).

What a cool blog. I need to watch that movie. I always thought the Luk Kwok Hotel in Wan Chai was the one they used for the film.

Nice pictures! I wonder if 5 decades later people will be equally fascinated by IFC and ICC.
