Yellow Emanuelle - Chai Lee (1977) - The Ambassador Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui

It appears that George's favourite hotel when he is stopping over between flights is the Ambassador Hotel on Middle Road. Well, the front entrance was on Middle Road but the building itself occupied the corner plot shared with Nathan Road. It was famous for having a large, tall mural on the exterior facade facing Nathan Road. It closed in 1994 and Oterprise Square went up in its place, although this has also been renamed simply to "26 Nathan Road". I've included the screen shot of what I think might be the hotel's real lobby, but I'm not sure so perhaps if anyone can remember what it looked like they can comment below. (edit: confirmation from Rodney in the comments that it was real)

Note the sign above the front entrance - possible evidence that the film was shot in 1976, assuming it wasn't left up too long after it was needed.

This was the real lobby at the time and I am quite sure it looked like that towards the latter part of the 1980s. I believe I last visited the hotel around '87. Those groovy, retro, blueish-green, round light bulbs are similarly arranged alongside the yellow bulbs in both the exterior and interior pictures.

Saw an episode from an '85 TVB series today used the exterior of the hotel. There were yellow bulbs arranged on the ceiling in a circular pattern (behind the AFTA sign) by then. Strangely, TVB filmed the scene with the cars driving the wrong way on the street.

Actually, there was a Chinese restaurant on Queen's Road Central that had a very similar light setup as the screencaps. It also had green lighting in between the steps of the stairs up to the joint.

thanks for the confirmation, Rodney. Seemed too real to be a studio set. There are so many buildings in HK I wish I had seen. Sadly, my first trip here wasn't until 1995. Phil
