What is a Foreign/International Movie?

For the purpose of this blog only, a foreign/international movie could be one of several things. It mainly refers to a film shot in Hong Kong or Macau, made by a company that is based outside of China. You might be surprised to find out how many overseas companies have come to Hong Kong and Macau to shoot movies. I know I was, and every so often I am told about, or inadvertantly discover, another movie. So the list continues to grow, albeit now more slowly.

However, I also consider any Hong Kong production that was a co-production with an overseas company, as fulfilling my rather flexible definiton of a foreign/international movie. So we've seen a few of these on the blog already...co-productions between Hong Kong/France, Hong Kong/Japan, Hong Kong/USA etc.

The final criteria changes depending on my mood. Should I ever get round to putting this collection into book form (I have 3000+ posts, so it's taking quite some time) then I may also consider Hong Kong productions that used a foreign star/actor in order to create some international appeal. It just so happens that there are quite a few of these, but at the moment I have kept them listed under "Local" films.

A final category that really deserves a special mention is those films that look like they were filmed in Hong Kong or Macau, but just used library/stock footage and/or, more recently, CGI to create the impression of being here. I've included them in the blog for completeness and so that I can point out what is or isn't real.

Anyway, many thanks for reading and I hope you find this stuff interesting, or perhaps even helpful.
