Daddy Cool - Mammootty (2009) - Avenue of Stars

A significant proportion of the musical set piece was filmed along the (old) Avenue of Stars along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront in Kowloon. For those who never got the chance to experience the original AoS, you didn't miss much. It was a bit of poorly-managed tourist tat, full of spelling mistakes and overpriced film memorabilia. It underwent a renovation a few years back when New World Development (the owners of the land) decided to knock down the New World Centre and rebuild it into the current K11 Atelier monstrosity. When reopened, the "new" Avenue was just as disappointing as the old one, and the old centrepiece - a life size bronze sculpture of Bruce Lee in a fighting stance, paid for and provided by fans - was relegated to one side as some sort of coffee shop ornament for the local Starbucks.

7 Aum Arivu - Suriya (2011) - Avenue of Stars, Tsim Sha Tsui

The final location from this mid-film song is the Avenue of Stars - or at least the previous version of it because it was "upgraded" (in HK terms, this usually means made worse) around the time Covid hit. New World development closed it down to allow access to the site works where the New World Centre was being demolished. As usual the google marker is snapping to nearby buildings rather than the "avenue" but I figure most people will know where it is.

Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong - Jamie Chung (2015) - The Avenue of Stars, Tsim Sha Tsui

I guess the filming along here took place not long before the place closed down for three years for a revamp. All the tacky stuff has gone to make way for marginally less tacky stuff and poor Bruce is now, along with Anita Mui, relegated to being an ornament in the Starbucks outdoor eating area.

DOA: Dead or Alive - Devon Aoki (2006) - Avenue of Stars, Tsim Sha Tsui

The last post from this film before the action moved over into Mainland China. It's a brief sequence made for the in-flight broadcast telling the entrants to bail out of the plane. The familiar stars from that classy not-tacky-or poorly-managed-at-all stretch of waterfront that is now known as the Avenue of Stars. In case you are still unaware of my true feelings about this place, you can read a bunch of stuff I wrote about it here.

Anyway, the place is currently closed whilst New World Development is redeveloping the area and some of the hand prints and statues (including the Bruce Lee one) have moved to the garden above East TST station.
