Double Dhamaal - Sanjay Dutt (2011) - Aberdeen Marina

The next con the gang try to do is to pretend one of them is a rich investor who rocks up to the casino and demands the valet park his boat. The shot we are shown is a view across the marina next to the Aberdeen Marina Club - most likely shot from the Shum Wan Pier Drive area where the floating restaurant pontoons were located - and not, as the editing tries to convince us, outside the casino in Macau.

Love in Hong Kong - Pauline Teutscher (1983) - Shum Wan Pier Drive and the Jumbo

I'm all for a bit of floating restaurant nostalgia now that all but one have now gone (I recently read that a company has decided to buy the Tai Pak and renovate and reopen sometime. We shall see). Here is a shot of the car arriving at the restaurant piers before the Aberdeen Marina Club was even built. I suspect the blue hoardings in the background of the first couple of images were up to protect the site of where the club's Marina Office Tower/carpark was being built.

Godzilla vs. Destroyah - Takuro Tatsumi (1995) - Aberdeen Harbour, Aberdeen

Almost immediately after causing a plane to make an emergency turn away from his gnashing teeth and laser breath, Godzilla pops up to wreak havoc amongst the patrons of the Jumbo Floating restaurant. Cue some rather dodgy looking back projected mayhem shot around the restaurant and also the pontoons over at Shum Wan Pier Drive.

Strangers - John Simm (2018) - Shum Wan Pier Drive, Wong Chuk Hang

This is the location where the vice-consul goes to meet Lau's girlfriend. It's just behind the Aberdeen Marina Club and is the main location for catching the free shuttles over to the Jumbo or Tai Pak restaurants. I have to say I have been down here since Typhoon Mangkhut hit and the tiles that once adorned the roof of the ornate pavement covering (that snaked down the hill from Welfare Road) have largely been destroyed so it's not looking its best these days.
