My Wife is a Gangster 3 - Shu Qi (2006) - Grandview Terrace, Siu Lam

The triad boss, played by Ti Lung, has a rather palatial mansion up in the hills in the New Territories. The building they used is part of the rather opulant Grandview Terrace - a luxury estate with large spacious mansions within. The address of the property seen on film is 1003 Kwun Fung Street. I have no idea who lives in this property, but let's just say you would need to be pretty rich to live up here, even by Hong Kong standards. The establishing shot begins with a view from the house's rather expansive terrace, looking down onto the sea between here and Lantau Island in the distance. The structure in the first image is the Hong Kong Observatory Terminal Doppler Weather Radar Station.

Hong Kong 73 - Yueh Hua (1974) - Castle Peak Hospital, Tuen Mun

Opened in 1961 as Hong Kong's main psychiatric hospital, it replaced the old one on Eastern Street (you will remember it from this) which was repurposed as an outpatient clinic. The hospital is still around on the same site, but has been extensively redeveloped into a much larger facility. The one we see below was quite small. One thing to note though is that despite all the change, the hospital still uses its original engraved name stone with its Chinese name (青山醫院). You can compare the name stone image below with the same one that currently sits outside the main entrance.

Tragic Hero - Chow Yun Fat (1987) - Green Jade / Tsing Bik Villa, Tuen Mun

As mentioned in my first post, this property is the main reason to include this film. This is Yung's palatial home and is the location of the film's finale as it gets completely obliterated by Chai and Kwok as they exact revenge on Yung and his men for killing all their family in Malacca. You can compare the images to how it looked in the 1960s for Kill a Dragon. As mentioned previously, the property was demolished almost immediately after filming was completed and the site was cleared to make way for the current "Bayview Terrace" residential development.

Tragic Hero - Chow Yun Fat (1987) - Chi Lok Villa, Tuen Mun

Boss Chu's house is Chi Lok Villa, a famous mansion that was demolished a few years back to make way for the current "South Crest" developemnt. You can see some images of it here because it also featured as Chor Yuen's house in Police Story 2. We don't get to see much of it in this film because the camera is inside filming out onto the driveway. This is where Yung puts in his attack plan and finally kills Boss Chu during a dinner party.

Tragic Hero - Chow Yun Fat (1987) - Tip Choi Villa, Barbecue Gardens

As in the first film, Chai's luxury family home is located in a 1960s era housing estate along Castle Peak Road called Barbecue Gardens. Apparently it was quite famous for having lots of stars living there in the 1960s. These days a few of the original houses remain. Chai's house, as can be seen here in Rich and Famous, was Tip Choi Villa at #11. The house is still around but I have no idea who owns it or lives there.

She Shoots Straight - Joyce Godenzi (1990) - Lam Tei Quarry

The film finale takes place in a quarry as Mina chases Yuen Hua and Yuen Ying away from the waterfront on a police motorcycle. The brother crashes and is killed so it's left to his sister to fight Mina mano a mano. This is actually quite a good fight and you can see Godenzi throwing down with some slick moves - no wonder Sammo made a move...Anyway, it looks as though this was filmed at Lam Tei quarry.

Ballad of a Small Player - Colin Farrell (2025) - Pak Nai, Tuen Mun

Following the fire festivities at the temple, the pair head to a nearby beach and sit on a wooden bench in the middle of what looks like mud flats. When Doyle wakes up in the morning, Dao-ming has disappeared and written a number code on his hand.  This scene was in fact filmed back in Hong Kong. This is the view from the low-tide mud flats in front of Pak Nai looking towards the Shekou peninsula in Shenzhen. It's not far from the so-called "Pak Nai Sky Mirror" near Ap Tsai Hang.

Gen Y Cops - Edison Chen (2000) - former Lok On Pai Desalination Plant

We were only here a few months ago for Hacker, but this location is used twice in this film. The first time (top two images) is the location of the underground fight club where the pair pick up Edison, and the second time (lower four images) we go back to this location is when the cops go and try to capture Kurt and his gang.

Dirty Tiger, Crazy Frog! - Sammo Hung (1978) - Yap Hiu Pavilion

Credit to Andi for identifying this location over in Tuen Mun, it's Yap Hiu Pavilion (邑曉亭 - Yap1 Hiu2 Ting4). This is the location where Mars goes to get a tea seller to serve Sammo and Lau Kar-wing some poison tea.

Anyone who has made the effort to go to Tsing Shan Monastery (and if you are a Bruce fan and haven't been, then it really is a must see for the "Lao's Time" and "Monk Talk" scenes) then you will pass this pavilion as you walk up Tsing Shan Monastery Path. I took this photo below back in 2007 when I first made the trip up there after moving to Hong Kong the previous year. It was probably recently repainted a the time because later images show the paint work is fading once again,

Hacker - Callan McAuliffe (2016) - Lok On Pai Desalination Plant

It's been a while since we were out this way but the location where the trio go to meet the elusive "Zed" is the old desalination plant at Lok On Pai.

Sweet is Revenge - Yueh Hua (1967) - Castle Peak/Tsing Shan Firing Range, Tuen Mun

The location of the car heist, as Xiao Pao (Yueh Hau) robs Commander Zheng and then proceeds to pretend to rescue him by disguising himself as the wife's long lost uncle, was filmed in an area with quite unique topography for Hong Kong. These sharp and rocky hills covered (at least in the 1960s) in pines is the 'Castle Peak Hinterland'. It's a rough and rugged area that has long been established as a live firing range for the British Garrison and its use as such has been continued by the PLA.

Up until a few years ago the area was popular with hikers but the local garrison and security forces have, over the past few years, been far less generous in how much hiking it allows here and I have heard stories of people being turned back by soldiers at various points. That said, it does appear that the Govt/PLA do issue warnings prior to any live firing exercises.

These scenes for Sweet is Revenge were shot at the north eastern end of the range near Yuen Tau Shan.
