Royal Warriors - Michelle Yeoh (1986) - Hill Road, Shek Tong Tsui

Credit where credit is due and I am still finding Dandan's Hong Kong on Film blog very useful even ten years after its indefinite hiatus began. This is the location of the baddy's ("Raging Bull" played by Lam Wai) hideout as he finds out about the failure of the plane hijack. It was located at 63 Hill Road but was demolished probably not long after filming and the current building in its place, Fortune Villa, was constructed in 1990. For those who don't read Chinese, the wooden sign hanging on the front simply says "For Rent".

I Come With The Rain - Josh Hartnett (2009) - Various Hong Kong Locations

I Come With The Rain is a French film made by Vietnamese-French director, Tran Anh Hung. It stars Josh Hartnett as Kline, a burnt out cop who has left the police after a violent encounter with a rather sadistic serial killer and he is hired as a private investigator to track down the missing son of a wealthy pharma boss. After a brief bit of searching in the Philippines he heads to Hong Kong to enlist the help of an old police friend who now works with the HK Police Farce...oops...I mean "Force".

The opening Hong Kong scenes are of Kline catching a car to his hotel and we get a few flashing glimpses of various parts of Wanchai. Such as the Hopewell Centre, Pico Tower. Then in some bizarre reverse time warp the car ends up back in Central (see third image) as the car passes the PLA Central Barracks (formerly HMS Tamar).

I Spy (TV Series) - Robert Culp (1965) - Queen's Road Central, Sheung Wan

Some nice glimpses - from the The Loser episode - of Queens Road Central as the duo are followed up by some dudes in a car. This particular stretch contained the popular Central Theatre (中央戲院) which we can see on the left hand side in the top screen grab and then the guys turn up the alleyway at the side.

Here is a modern comparison courtesy of Streetview. In case you are wondering the address of this place is 270 - 276 Queen's Road Central.

The cinema has since been demolished and replaced by a building called Central Mansion. Many former buildings endure in name if not physically in HK - it might be a willful act of remembrance on the developer's part, but I suspect it is more of an act of convenience and expediency. Anyway, the upshot is a bunch of new buildings in HK with names that remember what use to be on the site. I digress...

The bottom two shots show us that inside the lobby of the theatre was the "Central Soda Fountain" or 中央冰室 (Jung Ying Bing Sat). A "bing sat" is really a type of HK style (retro) cafe that was popular before corporate America invaded :-) They've become a bit iconic, to the point where even aforementioned corporate America is getting in on the act.

Anyway, here is a picture to show what that part of the world looks like now. Behold, Central Mansion and the pace that was formerly occupied by Central Theatre and Soda Fountain (the alley is still there :-) )

Bloodsport - Jean Claude Van Damme (1987) - Central & Western District, Hong Kong

Another birds-eye view taken from our opening helicopter sequence, this time looking south east(ish) over what is Central & Western District. Nothing much of note here other than a bunch of fairly homogenous looking high rises. The only stand out building for me is the tall pyramid-like shape of the Arion Commercial Centre which sits at the point along Queen's Road where it goes from being Queen's Rd Central to Queen's Rd West down in Sheung Wan.
