Powaqqatsi - Godfrey Reggio (1988) - Far East Finance Centre, Central

Actually, this building has cropped up a few times on the blog previously, but usually in its full golden glory. In this film it is just shown from the very top with the sun glinting off it making it hard to see the window colour.

Battleship - Taylor Kitsch (2012) - Central, Hong Kong

The final post from this very quick snippet of Hong Kong is an overhead shot of Central as it burns from the crashed spaceship. The buildings on fire include the two towers of the Lippo Centre, the gold-glassed Far East Finance Centre and the new Govt HQ on the left.

Knock Off - Jean Claude Van Damme (1997) - Various shots around town.

It seemed pointless to me to add a separate post for each of these seeing as they occupy so little time on screen. It's a little montage of around town shots, at the beginning of the film,  just to establish that we are in Hong Kong (and it's 1997). Starting with...

China Hong Kong City in Tsim Sha Tsui

A view across Central

Driving along Chater Road past HSBC

Along Connaught Road next to Admiralty Station

A view (also used again later in the film) across to Wanchai

The Lippo Centre

and finally a view across Kai Tak airport.

Actually, that last one is a cheat because it is seen well into the film and is a quick shot looking up Pedder Street (you can see the famous Pedder Building on the right with the archway) but I figured it was too small a shot for its own post.

Codename: Wildgeese - Lewis Collins (1984) - Far East Finance Centre, Central

A highly recognisable Central landmark courtesy of its rather 'striking' (i.e. naff) gold coloured windows. We've seen it on this blog before where it served as the HQ of Jackie Chan's enemy (played by Roy Chiao) in The Protector. In this film it also houses the offices of one of Collins's sponsors. It's featured a couple of times from various angles so here are screencaps from both occasions. The first one taken from the vantage point of ground level along Harcourt Road.

The second time we see it, the camera looks to have been placed on  top of the roof of the neighbouring Bank of America Tower (formerly Gammon House before a corruption scandal saw it sold on). You can see that building's reflection in those lovely tasteful shiny windows.

I'm not so sure that the office that the crew used in the film is actually in the Far East Finance Centre, because given the screen shot below - showing the old Furama Hotel almost immediately adjacent - I would hazard a guess and say it was actually shot inside an office inside Bank of America tower. Comments and corrections welcome, as always.

The Protector - Jackie Chan (1985) - Far East Finance Centre, Hong Kong Island

In the film it's used as the location of the baddy's (Roy Chiao) evil HQ, but in reality it's the Far East Financial Centre - a gold-coloured skyscraper that has been sitting on the HK waterfront since 1982. Seeing as the film was made in 1985 then I guess the film makers thought it represented the modern look of HK. To be honest its bright gold colour may remind the locals of a bar of gold but to me it just looks a bit tacky.
