Push - Chris Evans (2009) - I-Feng Mansion, To Kwa Wan

The residents of I-Feng Mansion in To Kwa Wan must be rubbing their hands together in anticipation whenever an overseas film company announces it will be filming in Hong Kong. We've seen this building twice before on this blog courtesy of Contagion and then Transformers. In Push, this is the building where Chris Evans' character is in hiding from "the department".

Transformers: Age of Extinction - Mark Wahlberg (2104) - To Kwa Wan Part 4 - Lok Shan Road, To Kwa Wan

Here's one I only just identified, otherwise I would have included it in the previous Lok Shan Road post. It is a brief moment when we see one of HK's famous ferries being twirled around in the air as the enemy spaceship is sucking up everything on the ground.

Now, the more eagle-eyed of you should have spotted something a bit awry. It's not obvious unless you are familiar with the way Chinese characters are written - you don't even have to know what the characters say, just be familiar with writing convention - but you should know that the Chinese shop sign in the upper cap is actually reversed. Here's what the location should actually look like.

I have no idea why the film was reversed. Now, if this was the 1970's then i could expect some inadvertent flipping due to the way the film is processed, like we saw in That Man Bolt. I have no idea what recording format was used for this film but I would say that digital movie would make this kind of error less likely. Anyway, the sign - when read the correct way - give us a shop name: 寶泰珠寶金行 - a jewellery shop on Lok Shan Road next to where the earlier filming around Mei King Street. Here's the Streetview that shows the corner building in the shot was actually once painted blue. The junction with the blue building is the junction with To Kwa Wan Road.

Transformers: Age of Extinction - Mark Wahlberg (2014) - To Kwa Wan Part 2 - Lok Shan Road, To Kwa Wan

Just off Lok Shan Road is the tail end of Mei King Street that runs down towards I-Feng Mansions. Contagion was filmed here in 2011 and this film has some fairly similar angles as the Autobots leap down from the building and generally blow stuff up in the surrounding area.

Transformers: Age of Extinction - Mark Wahlberg (2014) - To Kwa Wan Part 1 - Lok Shan Road, To Kwa Wan

There are several scenes filmed in To Kwa Wan including some views up the same section of road where Contagion was filmed a couple of years earlier. This scene of one of the robots arriving was shot along Lok Shan Road where it joins Mei King Street.

Contagion - Matt Damon (2011) - Lok Shan Road, To Kwa Wan

As I tidy up a few long forgotten loose ends, I found one from Contagion. I remember my Hung Hom based buddy telling me that Contagion was filming just around the corner from him but then couldn't remember where it was done. It turns out it was down a small alleyway off Lok Shan Road and Mei King Street. It's where the infected waiter seems to live.

The buildings in question, seen above, are all part of I-Feng Mansions and can be seen on the Streetview taken from Lok Shan Road below - this is the closest I can get via Google. Remember this area because we will come back to it at a later date when looking at Transformers 4.

Yellowthread Street (TV Series) - Bruce Payne (1990) - Tin Hau Temple, To Kwa Wan

Temples in Hong Kong can, usually, be relied upon to be around year after year. It's not true of all religious/spiritual buildings, but it's a brave developer indeed who risks the wrath of some make-believe deity for the sake of building a high-rise. So, it didn't take too long to track down the following place seen at the beginning of Fan Tan Man when our bald-headed bad guy goes there to pray for some good luck at the gambling table.

Unfortunately, Streetview doesn't have a great angle on this place due to the amount of traffic blocking the view - a common problem for me - so here is the same place taken from slightly to the right and forward of where the cameras would have been standing for the filming.

On the left side of the Streetview picture you can see a flyover which is the East Kowloon Corridor. We get to see the same road a few seconds later in the show when the cop car pulls out to follow their suspects along Lok Shan Road.
