Expired - Ryan Kwanten (2021) - Nelson Street, Mongkok

Jack emerges from the metro system at what is exit E1 of Mongkok station. This thoroughfare was originally Nelson Street but this section (and the same on the other side of Nathan Road where exit E2 is) is now fully pedestrianised. Also, the Langham Place Shopping Mall removed a big chunk of Nelson Street on this side of Nathan Road.

The Big Game - Brendan Boone (1973) - Nelson Street, Mongkok

Back in the 1970s, Nelson Street's western end extended a small part across what was then the southern end of Tong Mi Road, forming an L-shaped junction. Tong Mi Road has since been widened and extended south, absorbing what was this small section of Nelson Street. The images below show Jim (Brendam Boone) standing on that old, western limit before walking east towards the rest of Nelson Street proper. In the background of the top two images you can see the Ferry Point Estate to the south and the ridgeline of Hong Kong Island beyond. This Streetview shows what the area looks like now.

Das Mädchen von Hongkong - Joachim Fuchsberger (1973) - Nathan Road, Kowloon

Here's a quickie to illustrate again how some of these films have reused footage from earlier movies for their establishing shots. It's more common than I realised and even Robert Clouse was at it when he reused the famous panning shot of HK from the beginning of Enter the Dragon and inserted it into the beginning of Golden Needles. In fact, there is a large section of this film in the opening credits that was taken from the earlier 1960's German films that I have already covered.

Two shots here that we have seen previously in earlier films. The first one is the collection of neon lighting hanging off the Alhambra Building in Yau Ma Tei. We saw both of these shots recently in Heisser Hafen Hongkong.

Heisser Hafen Hongkong - Horst Frank (1962) - Nelson Street, Mongkok

Another night shot showing off some local colour, literally. I don't know what the shop was but I do know it was situated on the corner of Nathan Road and Nelson Street in Mongkok. The first shot shows us looking from Nathan Road at the shop front with Nelson Street on the left, and the second picture shows the view from the pavement outside the same shop looking south down Nathan Road. In the background you can just make out the lights of the Sun Ya Hotel which was on the opposite side of the road. The address we are at is 636 Nathan Road and it now has a commercial building called the Bank Centre.

Boarding Gate - Asia Argento (2007) - Nelson Street, Mongkok

I haven't quite sussed out where they filmed the industrial building that Sandra flees from (somewhere in Kwun Tong I think) - but she crashes out of a side alleyway (lots of those in Hong Kong) and into Nelson Street in Mongkok. We know exactly which alleyway because we can just make out the "Hon Wing Book Company" opposite. Then as she turns to her right we can see an overhead banner for Ladies Market - situated at the junction with Tung Choi Street in front.

Flatfoot in Hong Kong - Bud Spencer (1975) - Macpherson Playground, Mongkok

At one point the heroes go to a sumo wrestling fight (in Hong Kong!?) before getting shot at and then Rizzo storms out of the arena and pops out of Macpherson playground onto Nelson Street. Things around here have changed a lot but look at the background and you can still see one of the old buildings there.

When I originally posted this location (back in 2012), I wasn't sure if the interior scenes were shot at the Macpherson stadium, but it turns out they were, so for this update (2025) I have also included shots from the Sumo arena. It was demolished/rebuilt smaller in 2008 to partially make way for a residential building, but the outdoor pitch is still there. If you look at the image on the right of this Wiki entry, you can see the curved roof of the old stadium.
