Shing Wong Street - Now and Then

There is a scene in Painted Faces where the boys are being led along a pathway and are called "Bald Headed Pigs" by the local children. This was filmed along Wing Lee Street and Shing Wong Street. I was here just the other day and tried to capture the same angles.

The first two images show the view looking along Wing Lee Street from where the boys are being led by Sammo.

These second images show the view up the steps of Shing Wong Street as they turn uphill and walk up the steps.

Painted Faces - Sammo Hung (1988) - Shing Wong Street, Sheung Wan

We were here just a few posts ago for Tokyo Gang vs Hong Kong Gang. This is the location where the boys are teased and called "bald headed pigs" by the local school boys before being splashed with water. The troupe is led along Wing Lee Street before they turn up the steps on Shing Wong Street as they are sprayed with water.

Tokyo Gang vs Hong Kong Gang - Ken Takakura (1964) - Shing Wong Street, Sheung Wan

Despite walking along Bridges Street before turning north (downhill) into Shing Wong Street, the next scene shows Kitahara walking down the section of Shing Wong Street that is directly south of the Bridges Street Market. He pauses at the junction with Wing Lee Street before continuing down to hill.

Tokyo Gang vs Hong Kong Gang - Ken Takakura (1964) - Bridges Street, Sheung Wan

After getting out of his taxi, Kitahara takes to the streets and wanders around, seemingly with no purpose, but it appears he realises he is being followed and is attempting to lose his tail. He walks past the old Bridges Street Market and then decides to turn down Shing Wong Street. The building in the background is the Bridges Street Market building. It's still there today and is designated as a heritage building.
