Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Dragonara, 248 Tai Mong Tsai Road

The woman pulls into a large waterfront property. This is the base of the criminal gang that the killer of Liang Kuan works for. The property is located at 248 Tai Mong Tsai Road and is still around. It's called Dragonara and was recently sold (2022) for HK$181M (that's about $22M US).

The building has an occupation permit issued in April of 1974 - almost a whole year after this film was released. So it might have been newly finished when the film crew used it. It does appear that the interiors are also the same property rather than being a studio set.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Tai Mong Tsai Road, Sai Kung

The cops follow the woman into Sai Kung and along Tai Mong Tsai Road. This is the curve in the road right next to Tso Wo Hang.

The film is trying to draw out the pursuit for as long as possible because the next scene sees us looking at the same small stretch of road as the cars come back again.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Junction of Prince Edward Road West and Waterloo Road

The police follow the woman to a hairdressers on Waterloo Road and send in Shen Yan as a pretend customer to see what she does. There are some nice views around the area before the Waterloo Road flyover was constructed. I believe the orange/brown temporary east/west flyover that can be seen was part of the initial works to build the Waterloo Road flyover which now traverses the junction from north to south.

Looking down Waterloo Road from the junction

This looks like a temporary flyover on Prince Edward Road

In this last image there are two pale yellow mansion blocks located at 116 and 114 Waterloo Road. Built in the mid-50s, both of these blocks were still around until quite recently, however, 116 (above the red car) has just recently been knocked down for redevelopment.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Shek Pik Prison, Lantau Island

Through the dead body they have recovered, the police identify a woman who knew the deceased and have been tracking her movements. In this scene, Wong's side kick recounts how she has been seen leaving Shek Pik Prison and we are given some footage of that with Fung Hak-on superimposed onto it as he is the recounting her movements.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Pik Sha Road, Silverstrand Bay

The cops discover a dead body that appears to be linked to the guy who killed Liang Kuan. The lorry driver who witnessed the killers dumping it provides a photofit description that matches the elusive killer. The body is dumped near Bayside Beach in Silverstrand Bay. Note how utterly devoid it was of housing back in the early 70s. These days it is covered in small luxury, gated housing estates. The road the vehicles are on is today's Pik Sha Road, but I suspect it was nameless back then.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Lam Tin Estate, Kwun Tong

Next up, Wong goes on a one man raid against a group of gangsters who are tooling up on a rooftop. This was filmed on top of one of the blocks of the old Lam Tin Estate. The first image shows Wong and side-kick (Fung Hak-on) standing on Kai Tin Road with Block 11 behind them. The small block was the fomer Pooi Shing Primary School.

Judging by the angle on Kwun Tong Police station - which also features in the sequence when a bunch of cops are sent in as backup - then it looks like the rooftop fight was also filmed on top of Block 11. The whole estate underwent a staged demolition that was completed by 2002 and new blocks built to replace the old ones. In terms of the current area, Kai Yan House of the Kai Tin Estate, and the neighbouring carpark occupy the site where Block 11 used to stand.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Shaw Brothers Dormitories, Clearwater Bay

The two thieves are chased to a "housing estate" before being cornered by Wong. In reality these are the dorms at Shaws Movietown and are currently one of the only remaining parts of the original site. Even the bridge is still there as well as the spiral stair-cased guard tower, albeit looking very decrepit. Sadly the robbers aren't the ones responsible for Liang Kuan's death, so the hunt continues.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui

We switch back to a real location again as the police chase the robbers away and the pursuit spills out onto Chatham Road South. The arched building in the background is St Mary's Canossian College. In the last image you can see one of the Nissen Huts from the Chatham Road Camp.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Shaw's Movietown, Clearwater Bay

The robbery scene was shot at the Movietown complex. The yellow building is actually the other side of the building identified here as point A. This area in the complex was eventually replaced by the newer, modern "Shaw House" office block (that still stands today - one of the few buildings that has so far avoided demolition). The old building in the screen cap was still there - covered in plant growth - until a few years ago (see here), but was demolished when the site was sold for redevelopment.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Kimberley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui

So Wong, now a detective, spends the next few years seeking out thugs to arrest to try and find the man who killed Liang Kuan. First up is a couple of thugs who rob a foreign exchange shop. Supposedly in Tsim Sha Tsui. Actually, the shop location was a part of the Movietown complex, but the scene was edited together with the real location of the junction of Kimberley Road and Austin Avenue. That's the view we can see in the image. Interestingly, on the right hand side is the sign for a pharmacy called Kim Bun Dispensary. It's still there today, after 50+ years! In the film, the robbery is supposedly going on behind the camera.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Deepwater Bay

Wong meets up with Shen Yan during his training and they take a stroll along the beach at Deepwater Bay. This is a nice scene because we are treated to a quick view of the famous "Arrowhead" house that was featured in Love is a Many-Splendored Thing.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Butterfly Valley Interchange

After stealing the car in TST, the pair drive it up onto Lung Cheung Road via the Butterfly valley Interchange. The Mei Foo estate can be seen in the background of the top two images and also the blocks of the former Lai Chi Kok Hospital on the small hillock in the background of the middle one. This is now the Jao Tsung I Academy.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Peking Road, Tsim Sha Tsui

We are first shown the nefariousness of the main bad guy, Kao Tu (Wang Kuang-yu) when he and his buddy steal a car from a carpark in Tsim Sha Tsui. The top image shows the view along Peking Road looking towards Nathan Road, so it's worth noting some well known landmarks including the Red Lips bar, Club Tasagore, Club Danshoku, and on the left hand side a yellow sign for the former Restaurant Yamato - located up on the corner of Ashley Road and I Chang Street. The red line on that sign is obviously an arrow pointing up Ashley Road. Bruce Lee fans may remember that Lee worked out his fight scene with Sammo Hung on Enter the Dragon on bits of paper from the restaurant. They used to be on display at the Heritage Museum but it's a good ten years since I went so will have to go back to confirm if they're still there.

I digress. The carpark was created when a row of old Chinese tenements along Peking Road were demolished. Gwulo has an entry for them here. The carpark was later removed (along with a whole section of buildings by the former Marine Police HQ) to make way for Kowloon Park Drive.

Police Force - Wang Chung (1973) - Fei Ngo Shan

Following his victory in the karate competition, Ling Kuan (Fu Sheng) and Shen Yan (Lily Li), go up to Kowloon Peak to take some photos when they are accosted by the two thugs. The main thug, Kao Tu (Wang Kuang-yu), has just watched Liang win the karate tournament and so he ties his hands to stop him fighting back properly.

Following the attack, the sequence moves to the north side of the hill, close to where Gillwell Camp is located. In fact. the green painted sign seen in the images below *might* be an old sign to the camp. Although I'm not sure. The sign has long gone but that small area looks fairly similar today. The images below are all taken from the same spot but looking in two directions See here. It's now all part of the Wilson Trail Stage 4.
