Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong - Jamie Chung (2015) - D'Aguilar Street, Central

I'm back after a 2 week (mask free!) London sojourn in which I started to see lots of London film locations and now know what will be keeping me busy should I ever need to move back.

Anyway, almost reaching the final destination and I understand why the film has the title it does...it's taken so long to walk to Lan Kwai Fong from Mee Lun Street that it's "already tomorrow in Hong Kong". Anyway, as we approach the destination we are given a quick look up and down D'Aguilar Street. It looks just as hideous as I remember it.

Back to Wyndham Street for this post as they get slightly nearer to their destination at Lan Kwai Fong. The two establishing shots are followed by the two protagonists walking down the step in front of The Centrium. Anyway, with that I'm off for a quick break but will (hopefully) pick up where I've left off at the end of the month. Until then be safe and remember to WASH YOUR HANDS!

Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong - Jamie Chung (2015) - Queensway, Central

The next location is a much larger area compared to the narrow streets that have taken up much of the last few posts. This is the stretch of Queensway in front of the Cheung Kong Centre and Bank of China Tower just before it turns into Queen's Road Central. The scene starts off with the camera positioned on the Garden Road flyover looking down as the two cross the road.

We then get some nice views looking up at the various tall buildings here including the much smaller (but more stylish) Bank of China Building (the older BoC), HSBC HQ, Cheung Kong Centre and the Bank of China Tower.

There is a brief shot of the pair as they enter Chater Garden...

...and then inexplicably (though keeping with the illogical way the walk has gone up to now) they end up all the way back over to the Garden Road flyover where the camera was located for the opening shot. The spiral staircase is the same one that you can walk down from Garden Road back onto Queensway by the entrance to Chater Garden.

Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong - Jamie Chung (2015) - Duddell Street, Central

Next up is a little trip down the famous and historical stone steps at the southern end of Duddell Street. Even Josh gets into the touristic nature of their epic walk by describing how the steps are home to the (supposedly) last remaining gas lit lamps in Hong Kong. I have no idea if it's actually really true but everything here took a bit of a major battering last year when Typhoon Mangkhut blew through and caused a fair bit of damage. Anyway, this is where they have their photo taken which becomes a small plot point later in the film.

After going up the escalator at Staunton Street, the couple suddenly appear on Peel Street. The top image shows the small shrine that Peel Street is known for - it also made a brief appearance in Invisible Waves. Also, there are still some common elements seen on the other images that were in place all the way back in 2009 when Push was filmed.

After walking down Shin Hing Street they end up at the top of Elgin Street (already included in an earlier post) and then make their way to Staunton Street to ride the escalator back up the hill. As they go up the hill Ruby notices a coup[le who are ignoring each other by looking at their phones. It turns out the girl (white stillettoes) is the film's director, Emily Ting, doing an Alfred Hitchcock.

And so the epic journey begins and one of the first streets they are filmed walking down is Shin Hing Street which is located exactly next to and parallel to Mee Lun Street.

The pair initially meet outside a bar on Mee Lun Street. The guy overhears the girl speaking to her friend and the fact that she needs to get to Lan Kwai Fong but doesn't know the way. What follows is the most circuitous route ever invented for getting from Mee Lun Street to Lan Kwai Fong.

This time we are up on Wyndham Street. At #77 to be precise (you can partially see the illuminated number 77 in the top centre of the image). It's hard to keep track of the number of businesses that come and go all over Hong Kong but it looks like Fizz is still there for the time being (unless the protests and coronavirus have got rid of it recently).
