Forced Vengeance - Chuck Norris (1982) - Kai Tak Airport, Kowloon
I'll forgo the usual, cliched view of the plane coming in to land at Kai Tak for a different angle on the airport building that hasn't been seen so much on the pages of this blog. My own memories of the place are rather vague because I was only there under two circumstances - either arriving, in which case I was too excited to pay any attention, or leaving in which case I was too upset and depressed to be bothered with anything else.

Very cool. Car park hadn't been made taller yet, and the huge, covered taxi rank isn't there either.
Side note: I've been inside that control tower. One of the coolest places I've ever been!

My one redeeming memory is going there once to catch a flight back to the UK. Checked in and noticed I still had half an hour before the flight went, so decided to wander around and take photos with my pals. The next thing I knew I was looking at my watch and failing to comprehend that it was my flight departure time (not boarding...departure!!).
I raced through immigration and turned right to run up to the gate. The place was packed and out of all the people a woman stops me and asks if I am me (i.e. she called me by name). I answered 'yes' and she told me to run as fast as I could HAHA.
I got to the gate just as they were shutting the door, then walked to my seat with lots of people giving me dirty stares :-/ whoops!

I had had a similar experience while passing through Chicago O'Hare back in 1998. I landed there early in the morning on a flight from Sao Paulo and I snuck into downtown to visit some colleagues. (you cannot do that anymore after 911) I forgot to check which terminal for the departure and went to the wrong one. Whey I finally reached the right terminal and rushed through security and then to the gate, they were about to dig out my luggage from the underbelly.......
I had had the same feeling of half the cabin's of passengers are stabbing my back with their eyes........

well, I guess the wrong terminal is an easy mistake to make, i've done it a few times myself, but usually had enough time to get it right.
It's very disconcerting though when a member of staff is able to identify you by name amongst the local and foreign masses queuing up for the gates.
My most recent example of stupidity was going to the wrong airport in Taipei...*cringes with embarrassment*
Hi Phil,
I think Chicago O'Hare is so big that going to the wrong terminal is almost the same as going to the wrong airport. You have to go by mono rail to the other terminal. That was my first inter-continental flight though, very confused at the time. Unable to sleep while in flight muck things up further...........
