Rich and Famous - Chow Yun Fat (1987) - Pottinger Street, Central

Following their runin at the illegal gambling venue and subsequent committment to Ah Chai due to their debt - it was either that or lose their fingers - the boys head to Pottinger Street to meet their stuttering cousin, Mak (Alan Tam).

Mad Mission 3: Our Man from Bond Street - Sam Hui (1984) - Pottinger Street, Central

Speaking of Pottinger Street, this is where Graves' recorded message decides to self destruct, so in a panic the rickshaw puller pushes the rickshaw down the hill to get away from the explosion. This scene reminded me very much of Jackie Chan's rickshaw scene in Canton and Lady Rose although it's possible this scene itself was a bit of a riff on the one from Revenge of the Pink Panther as Kato rides an out of control Dairy Farm vending bike down the same street.

Mad Mission 3: Our Man from Bond Street - Sam Hui (1984) - Hollywood Road, Central

This one was a bit easy thanks to the very obvious address on the "Kim's Gallery" signboard (it says 5 Hollywood Road in case you can't quite read it). This whole block is now taken up by the Chinachem Hollywood Centre. That's the top of Pottinger Street in the last couple of images.

Spitfire - Lance Henriksen (1995) - Wellington Street, Central

The pair are finally caught at the junction of Pottinger Street and Wellington Street. Not much has changed here at all, apart from the fashions.

Spitfire - Lance Henriksen (1995) - Pottinger Street, Central

After beating up their pursuers over in Wanchai, by the magic of the movies, the pair are transported all of a sudden to Pottinger Street - recognisable thanks to its stone slab steps (which give the street its Chinese nickname/unofficial name - 石板街).

Something Good - Luca Barbareschi (2013) - Pottinger Street, Central

After being told the truth about Matteo by the police, Jiazhen wanders around the streets in the pouring rain as she decides what to do. This shot was on Pottinger Street, famous for its stone slab steps at various points of its climb up the hillside.

Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong - Jamie Chung (2015) - Pottinger Street, Central

There are quite a few places included in the opening sequence of the film, all centered around the popular bar and restaurant areas of Central. Here is a brief shot of Pottinger Street. Obviously this is the section, between Hollywood Road and Wellington Street, that isn't full of tourist stalls.

Hong Kong (series) - Rod Taylor (1960) - Pottinger Street, Central

The first shot following the opening credits of episode 4, Freebooter, is a glimpse up Pottinger Street from Queen's Road Central. This same shot is used again in Double Jeopardy.(ep:18) and The Runaway (ep:26).

Flight to Hong Kong - Rory Calhoun (1956) - Pottinger Street, Central

The two girls flee their pursuers down Pottinger Street before heading into a cafe. Right now I am finding it hard to place which section of Pottinger Street but I suspect it's the bit between Stanley and Wellington Streets. Any higher up and I would expect to see side of the old Central Police Station at the top.

Meteor - Sean Connery (1979) - Pottinger Street, Central

After seeing everyone rushing away from the typhoon shelter in Yau Ma Tei the next shot shows, supposedly, the same group of people as they rush up Pottinger Street in Central. I've got to admit, I think even with a tsunami bearing down on me I wouldn't be able to run even half as fast as they did to get there so quickly.

The lower photo shows the junction at Hollywood Road with the former Central Police Station compound in the background.

Foxbat - Henry Silva (1977) - Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong

One of the Foxbat mysteries solved courtesy of the indefatigable Thomas. It is part of the centrepiece car chase that takes us all over the Island. I was quite impressed at first by the fact that the chase was quite consistent in terms of the reality of Hong Kong geography and the chronology of the chase. However, this one has completely let me down because just after the cars leave the general Sai Ying Pun/Sheung Wan area they are seen in this shot heading down Queen's Road Central.

Why is this a problem? Well, as Thomas noted in his comments, Queen's Road is a west-bound one way road so there is no way the cars could travel from the west end of the island to Wanchai (where the chase ends up) via this road. Silly me, I should have realised :(

Anyway, once again Thomas hit the nail on the head and identified this particular stretch of the road as the section in Central near to the junction with Pottinger Street. In fact, in the last picture above you can just make out the recently demolished Redge House that stands on the corner with Pottinger Street (the lighter-coloured second building down on the right hand side).

Once again a big thanks to Thomas.

The Yin and Yang of Mr Go - James Mason (1970) - Hollywood Road, Central

The US agent gets into a spot of bother (it's never clear why and I suppose the reason may have been one of the never filmed scenes) and is chased up Pottinger Street. Burgess Meredith, in a role that is also never made clear, agrees to act as a decoy and leads the pursuers up to the Central Police Station on Hollywood Road where he is able to escape (into the police compound it seems) by walking next to some police.

Jaguar Lives - Joe Lewis (1978) - Pottinger Street, Central

It wasn't too difficult to place this particular scene due to Pottinger Street's floor slabs, but also courtesy of the building in the background with the vertical fins which sits at 76 Wellington St - on the north corner where it intersects with the higher portion of Pottinger St.

Revenge of the Pink Panther - Peter Sellers (1978) - Pottinger Street, Central

After crashing down Aberdeen Street and failing to make the turn onto Hollywood Road, Kato - astride the Dairy Farm motorcycle - somehow finds himself charging out of control down the slab steps of Pottinger Street which is actually a little further along Hollywood Road than the film would let you believe.

By pure luck he manages to catch up with the car at the bottom where Pottinger Street meets Wellington Street before continuing on down Wellington Street. You can see the red brickwork of the Central Police Station on Hollywood Road at the top of Pottinger Street.

The Streetview picture below shows same acute junction where Lyndhurst Terrace leads off to the left and Wellington Street continues on down the hill. Same same but different.

That Man Bolt - Fred Williamson (1973) - Pottinger Street, Central

One of the many street side scenes from the film includes this nice shot of Pottinger Street - famous for its steep stone slab steps. This part of it leading south from Queen's Road has been used many times over the years for film and TV.

Now, I don't get much chance to head into Central these days, but it's possible that Redge House (you can just see the "R" of the name next to the Queen's Rd Central street sign) has recently been demolished [Edit: yes it has, see Thomas' comments below]. It's still visible in Streetview for the time being because the Google stuff was recorded back in 2011. It's a big shame because it was quite a nicely designed building and was fairly new when this film was made (it was built in 1971). Anyway, here is the Streetview of the same location.
