Four Assassins - Will Yun Lee (2011) - Woosung Street, Yau Ma Tei

Another shot from the opening montage which shows a view looking south down Woosung Street between Saigon Street and Ning Po Street. None of this signage exists anymore - it's been removed in the slow stripping away of Kowloon's soul. Welcome to the new Hong Kong.

The Confidence Man JP: The Movie - Masami Nagasawa (2019) - Woosung Street, Yau Ma Tei

One of the last shots in the film is of a street cleaner sweeping around Woosung Street with the old dai pai dong stalls on the corner of Pak Hoi Street on the other side of the road. This place was popular with tourists and locals alike but the Govt didn't like the tent like structure the stalls were all housed in and have replaced it with a modern dedicated building with a proper roof and walls. In other words, made it like every other restaurant in HK - once again missing the whole point of a place's fundamental appeal.

Blood, Sand and Gold - Aaron Costa Ganis (2017) - Nanking Street, Yau Ma Tei

To round of this film, there is a post-credits sequence when one of the characters if revealed to have survived the film's denouement. The sequence starts off with a blurry shot of Woosung Street as the character steps into frame and comes into focus. Squint a bit and you can just about make out the vague shape of a building in the background that stands on the NE corner of the junction of Woosung and Nanking Streets. Actually, we were at that junction just a few months ago with Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong.

The final shot of the film was taken along the aforementioned Nanking Street (turn right at the junction I just mentioned) and it's a view from just beyond the junction with Parkes Street looking back to the pedestrianised section of Nanking Street between Parkes and Woosung Streets.

The Suspect 용의자 - Gong Yoo (2013) - Woosung Street, Kowloon

The final Hong Kong-shot scene for this film involves the sequence when the two bad guys decide to sell Ji Gong-jul's daughter to Chinese human-traffickers. The exchange takes place on Woosung Street in Yau Ma Tei. The key identifiers here are the sign for the 合興火鍋 hot pot restaurant in the background of the top image (blue/red sign in the distance), followed by the outdoor restaurants that can be seen on the right in the second image. They are located where Woosung and Temple Streets are intersected by Pak Hoi Street.

Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong - Jamie Chung (2015) - Woosung Street, Yau Ma Tei

They decide to go and grab something to eat and Josh recommends a restaurant he likes. It turns out it is one of the spicy crab joints around the Temple Street night market. The one they go to though is actually on the next street over on Woosung Street at the junction with Nanking Street. The address is 103 Woosung Street.

Ghost in the Shell - Scarlett Johansson (2017) - Woosung Street, Yau Ma Tei

Another shot taken in the Pak Hoi Street vicinity. This time it's Woosung Street at the junction with Pak Hoi St. Although the corner building has been disguised for the film, the markings on the "give way" triangle symbol on the road match the ones that are still there. At some point I will head out with my camera and take some comparison pictures, seeing as I don't live that far from here. The CGI in the third picture is obscuring the Alhambra Building at the end of the road.

Ein Sarg aus Hong Kong - Heinz Drache (1964) - Woosung Street, Kowloon

A big thanks to Arthur for getting this seemingly obscure street scene from Ein Sarg aus Hongkong. A bit of nifty searching by him has located an address thanks to matching up some of the shop signs that can be seen on the left hand side of the lower picture.

The white columns with red writing along the left side of the street tie up with a picture Arthur found at the following thread on the Uwants forum (it's a great resource for old Hong Kong pictures as long as you have a decent grasp of Chinese literacy (sadly, I don't).

So we now know that this particular stretch of road, where the (most likely) fictitious "Celestial Empire Hotel" is situated. This whole stretch - between Jordan Road and Nanking Street - has been redeveloped, however, the curved corner building in the mid distance is still around and it's on the corner on Nanking Street and now houses the Goodrich Hotel. It was built in 1964 so must have been brand new when this film was shot (probably why it looks so clean!).

Anyway, once again a massive thanks to Arthur for finding the proverbial needle in the haystack.

Blackhat - Chris Hemsworth (2015) - Woosung Street, Yau Ma Tei

More Woosung Street. We already know that the investigators' flat is just a few metres down the road but I hadn't realised until just now that the scene whereby one of the bad guys puts a tracking device on their car was filmed just a few short steps north - outside the front of a local restaurant called 金山 (that's Kam Shan in case you don't read Chinese, although the Cantonese pronunciation is closer to Gum Saan).

The top screen cap shows the three walking north along Woosung Street. The second shows the baddy guy watching them across the road and the third is the moment he sticks the device to the bottom of their car. Here are the Streetview grabs.

Note the neon sign in the third picture. This is the same sign for the Luen Fat restaurant that is stuck on the outside of their apartment. The restaurant is on the ground floor. In the above Streetview grab you can see it in the middle distance - the blue and red sign centre picture. The Kam Shan restaurant can be seen below. I've not been to eat here yet but I can tell you right now the best thing about it is the fact that it is on the ground floor of a building called GOFUKU Tower. Awesome name!

Blackhat - Chris Hemsworth (2015) - Woosung Street, Yau Ma Tei

Much like his Avenger co-star, Chris Evans, in Push a few years before, Hemsworth and co also hole up in an anonymous flat somewhere in Kowloon whilst they carry out their clandestine operations to track down the hackers. In this case a large neon sign outside the window is crucial to knowing where this flat was. You can see it in the top picture.

The sign is in fact for the Luen Fat restaurant on Woosung St in Yau Ma Tei. You can see the sign in the Streetview grab below. Now the film was shot after the Streetview grabs were made and if you look at the screencaps from the film you'll notice the windows bars are rather old-style metal ones. Given the more modern ones in the Streetview it's fair to assume the production crew changed them around (or added fake ones) for the purpose of filming.

In the lower film grabs you can see Hemsworth looking out of the window down Ning Po Street. The pawnshop wasn't around at the time of the Streetview picture but you can spot a couple of other familiar signs in the picture below, as well as the corner building seen in the lower film grab.
