Bloodfight - Yasuaki Kurata (1989) - Central, Hong Kong

Afew shots around Central as the opening credits roll. The camera was located at the bottom of Garden Road. Some of these buildings are still around, some aren't. The top three images below are part of a panning shot from left to right. In the second image you can see the Furama Hotel, Hutchison House and the Murray Road carpark - all have now gone and been replaced, the latter two just in the past 3 years or so.

Bloodfight - Yusuaki Kurata (1989) - Kai Tak Airport

Who needs Bloodsport when you can have budget Bloodsport aka Bloodfight? It even has the same bad guy (Bolo Yeung) playing a character with (almost) the same name - Chang Lee! This effort from Yasuaki Kurata, a famous Japanese action actor who was based in HK for many years, is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Terrible acting, poor choreography and just mind-numbingly bad. But hey, it has some interesting late 80s Hong Kong locations. Don't take my word for it, FILMIX have uploaded it to Youtube for everyone to see.

The story is largely told in flashback as Masahiro (Kurata), mid fighting tournment, recalls how his most promising student, Ryu (Simon Yam - yes, that Simon Yam) is trained up but then brutally murdered in the same ring by Chang Lee. Masa goes through a personal journey on his way back to the ring to take revenge for his student.

First up is some shots of Kai Tak. I couldn't really tell what was going on but I think this is a bit like Enter the Dragon as we see a variety of Bloodsport rip-off international fighters arriving for the tournament and the airport is obviously one of the entry points.

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - Po Hang Lane, Tsz Wan Shan

Many thanks to an anonymous commentator who has identified a rather difficult location for Police Story 2 that I figured would take months to track down (I do a lot of these locations on the fly rather than have a big back log of places to post, so if I don't get them within a few days they tend to get forgotten about until I have time to go back and try again).

The scene is the start of the police's surveillance of John Cheung's bad guy. He leaves a building on a large set up steps between a couple of buildings as the covert cop van pulls up and starts to take pictures of him. The immediate next scene is this one (the same one where anon commented) where Cheung walks down some steps in TST.

Anyway, if you follow the link to that post you'll see the initial scene below is located on Po Hang Lane (蒲蘅里) in Tsz Wan Shan. I've actually walk ed past this location on multiple occasions because I used to take my kids to the cycle track in Po Kong Village Park on the opposite side of Po Kong Village Road. Looking at Streetview, the place hasn't changed at all other than the buildings getting a new lick of paint.

Anyway, a big thanks to anon for saving me several weeks of tedious trawling through the map.

Flash Point - Donnie Yen (2007) - Nam Sang Wai, Yuen Long

The gang have taken Wilson and his girlfriend captive in a remote location and Ma takes the newly captured older brother (Ray Lui) to exchange hims for them. The remote location is of course the Nam Sang Wai wetlands just north of Yuen Long. This place has been used plenty in both local and overseas productions. I wonder how long it will stay this undeveloped though as developers on both sides of the border have been eyeing this area up for redevelopment for years. According to Dan Thomas' old (and sadly neglected) Hong Kong on Film blog, the old house was a proper relic and not just built for the movie. The last time Streetview was updated in this location was 2015 and the house was still standing, but quite a lot has happened in Hong Kong since then so there's no guarantee it's still there now.

Flash Point - Donnie Yen (2007) - North Kowloon Magistracy, Shek Kip Mei

The elder brother (played by Ray Lui) is due in court at the North Kowloon Magistracy and it is also outside here where Ma decides to beat him up. This place was built in 1960 and is in a similar style to several other remaining magistracy buildings of the same era. It closed as a legal building in 2005 (hence why it could be used in the film) and was later part of the Govt's adaptive reuse project and leased to the Savannah College and Art & Design (SCAD) for several years. SCAD abruptly closed down in 2020 - just after the start of the pandemic - and pulled completely out of Hong Kong leaving quite a lot of students in the lurch.

Anyway, the building is still standing, albeit now empty, and I'm not sure of any plans to lease it to a new user. I live not far from here in fact and walk past it most days, so the bottom image is one I snapped the other day.

Flash Point - Donnie Yen (2007) - Eastern Street, Sai Ying Pun

Despite making a rather long detour over to Glenealy, the foot chase returns to Sai Ying Pun as the pair run down Eastern Street - right next to the previously mentioned Dental Hospital. The top image shows the corner with High Street.

Flash Point - Donnie Yen (2007) - Glenealy, Central

After the attempt on Wilson's life by Tiger, Ma chases him out of the hospital. The large slope they run down is located at the top of Glenealy in Central. The gate posts behind the actor in the third image mark one of the entrances to the Zoological and Botanical Gardens.

Flash Point - Donnie Yen (2007) - The Prince Philip Dental Hospital, Sai Ying Pun

Even though the establishing shots for Wilson's hospital stay involved the St Teresa's Hospital in Kowloon, according to the film credits, the hospital scenes were in fact filmed at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital over on Hong Kong Island. The capture below appears to have been filmed in the basement carpark.

Flash Point - Donnie Yen (2007) - St Teresa's Hospital, Prince Edward Road

We were here just a few posts (and 50+ years) ago. The original building has long since gone and replaced by a much larger complex. This is the hospital Wilson is supposedly taken to following his accident. The caption in Chinese on the screen capture says "3 months later".
