But anyway, thanks to Thomas' efforts we can now confirm that this is Cleverly Street in Sheung Wan. It's hard to believe it considering the way it looks today (a whole chunk of buildings on the left hand side have been removed to make way for a sitting out area). The bank building was located to the right of the policemen at the junction with Burd Street.
Unfortunately the current Streetview has a big truck blocking much of the scene, but I've included it anyway just to give you an idea of how much things can change.
As you can see, most of the surroundings have been redeveloped, and it may come as no surprise to find out that the Jervois Street location I posted about here is actually only about 100 yards away from this location.

Hi Phil,
Posted the comment in the wrong thread. Anyway, I recognized Cleverly Street by that 'Popular Electronic' store at the lower right of the screen. I used to be an audiophile when I was younger and that shop was well known to have a huge stock of matched Valves made in the UK, US & Germany. The owner would also take orders to custom build Amplifiers for customers.
Just lucky to see landmarks that I know is all.
As for the Bank, tilt up and see the window frames on the mezzanine. It is still the same.
Thanks & Best Regards,
T
no worries T, I knew what you were talking about :-) You're too humble by far. Much kudos is due for getting these small places. Many thanks
Hi Phil -- We can get that big yellow truck out of the way now, thanks to an update from Google Street View. You can now select to view images from previous Street View visits to a location. (Or at least, I can -- I understand they're rolling it out to accounts gradually, so you may not be able to yet.)
So here's the same location on Cleverly Street, cleverly timewarped back to July 2009 (when both sides of the road were just starting construction -- presumably we just missed the earlier buildings' demolition by a year or less), as well as July 2011 and your image from August 2011:

ooh! I was hoping they would do something like that, I'm glad to hear they are implementing it. Will have to investigate - many thanks.
