In the lower picture, - at the back, underneath the red sign - is the Great George Building, once home to the much talked about Daimaru department store that closed in 1998 after nearly 40 years.
Edit: I forgot to include the other shots of Great George Street when I first posted this. Filmed outside Daimaru with a view to the other side of the street and the various shops there.
And finally a clip of the taxi pulling into Paterson Street. The building at the back is the one that Thomas mentioned in his comment (see comments below) most likely being the former Dairy Farm Depot. That small section of Paterson Street is now closed off and pedestrianised and the Hang Lung Centre sits on that site now.

Hi Phil,
The tailor signage looked pretty vague. By the look of it it took advantage of the boarded up site of the then Dairy Lane (now Wellcome) for the scene.
At that time Hang Lung Centre was not there yet. The whitish building shown in the last screen capture would likely be the former Dairy Farm Depot, with their ice factory on the other side at present day Windsor House. That was a major distribution centre for the Farm's milk trucks.

I grew up in Paterson Street. The area was practically my door step. Looking at those screen captures really brought back childhood memory.
As for Great George Street, it used to be a dead end before the water way was filled up for the Gloucester Road extension. Pearl City Mansion was very new when the TV program was shot. It was the last residential block in the area. The signage of the Pearl City Restaurant & Night Club has a phrase 'Open soon'. This implied not all the shops were opened yet.

I think the tree in the last photo and other trees on the street survived until the 1990s.

Bumped into this again and found the second last screen capture didn't seem to fit the Paterson Street back in 1969. If that's the case the shops shouldn't be those. The style of the store fronts just did not match up with the pervious ones (the one on the other side of Great George Street of the Hong Kong Mansion). But some shops in the area of the same decade did look like that. Probaby some editing magic that landed the footage there? I don't know.

Actually, the second (and third) last images should be Great George Street. It's only the last image that shows the taxi turning right into the southern section of Paterson Street from Great George St. At least that was my understanding. Cheers, Phil
