Who needs Bloodsport when you can have budget Bloodsport aka Bloodfight? It even has the same bad guy (Bolo Yeung) playing a character with (almost) the same name - Chang Lee! This effort from Yasuaki Kurata, a famous Japanese action actor who was based in HK for many years, is one of the worst films I have ever seen. Terrible acting, poor choreography and just mind-numbingly bad. But hey, it has some interesting late 80s Hong Kong locations. Don't take my word for it, FILMIX have uploaded it to Youtube for everyone to see.
The story is largely told in flashback as Masahiro (Kurata), mid fighting tournment, recalls how his most promising student, Ryu (Simon Yam - yes, that Simon Yam) is trained up but then brutally murdered in the same ring by Chang Lee. Masa goes through a personal journey on his way back to the ring to take revenge for his student.
First up is some shots of Kai Tak. I couldn't really tell what was going on but I think this is a bit like Enter the Dragon as we see a variety of Bloodsport rip-off international fighters arriving for the tournament and the airport is obviously one of the entry points.

Kumite.... Kumite..... Oh what wrong film. Been looking for a widescreen version of this film for ages. Only ever seen the pan and scan version.
all I can say is, it's a good job I rarely watch these movies for the plot, acting or choreography anymore...
