Full Contact - Chow Yun Fat (1992) - Harbour Drive, Wanchai

Following the shootout in the club with Judge (the famous one with the bullets striking in mid-air), Jeff, Sam and Mona escape in Jeff's car and drive down Harbour Drive from the direction of Gloucester Road.

The car is then also seen driving west along Harbour Road, right next to the junction with Harbour Drive.

She Shoots Straight - Joyce Godenzi (1990) - Harbour Road Pedestrian Bridge

Following the princess's kidnapping, Mina runs to the pedestrian bridge that crosses Harbour Road and takes a few shots at it before jumping onto some nearby advertising banners. Here's the current view of the middle image.

Killer Angels - Moon Lee (1989) - Sun Hung Kai Centre, Wanchai

There are a couple of scenes shot outside the Sun Hung Kai Centre in Wanchai, such as the one in the top image as Michael, waiting for Moon, is being spied on by the boss's daughter. The lower image shows Mr Oto (Mark Houghton) leaving the same building.

Legacy of Rage - Brandon Lee (1986) - Harbour Road, Wanchai

We move one block north as May runs between the old Exhibition Centre and Harbour Road Garden. The green, tiled wall with the old Urban Council symbols has since been removed, although you can still see it on older Streetview captures (minus the Urban Council symbol). The exhibition centre has also been gone a while now. It's role was largely usurped by the new, larger convention centre nearby and the last time I was there was for a dive show about 10 years ago. It's now been replaced by the St Regis Hotel.

Righting Wrongs - Yuen Biao (1986) - Great Eagle Centre, Wanchai

Biao follows his mark all the way to the Great Eagle Centre in Wanchai. It's here where the man has an office and where Biao supposedly rappels down the side of the building in order to carry out the assassination. As we'll see in the next post, the building used for the cable stunt was filmed elsewhere (I have several location "reveals" that fans of the film may be interested to read*).

This is the main entrance along Harbour Road and looks pretty much the same today, although I think the ornamental guardian lions have since been removed.

* I am aware that "someone" is working on a HK film locations book at the moment, as far as I know the new locations I have found are not currently known, so if they appear in that book - without credit - you'll know where he got the info.

Les Anges Gardiens - Gerard Depardieu (1995) - Harbour Road, Wanchai

As Depardieu takes care of business inside the Bank of Shanghai, his pursuers watch and wait from a car parked along Harbour Road. The first view is looking east towards the Great Eagle Centre from under the pedestrian link bridge connecting Central Plaza with the Exhibition centre. The second shot is looking back the other from the same point.

Foxbat - Henry Silva (1977) - Harbour Drive, Wanchai

Not strictly Harbour Drive, but the end part of the car chase culminates in the newly reclaimed section of the Wanchai waterfront that now houses buildings such as the China Resources Building, Sun Hung Kai Centre and the nearby Wanchai Sports Ground.

For example, in the first picture we can see the bus continuing along Marsh Road towards this area that is still obviously a very young construction site.

The finale involves Philip Chen (who also happened to co-write the film) crashing his car through the top of the bus and the following two pictures show where it happens.

I initially though the low building with the open front was the old Wanchai Police Station, but it turns out we are looking a bit further to the east. The cream building (in the DVD screencap you can clearly see a Citizen advert on it) is actually still around (although I think the advert has long gone) and it is the City Centre Building/City Mansion (the name depends on whether you are looking at Google Maps or Centamap) that sits on the corner of Stewart Road (the music company Tom Lee currently occupy the first two floors). That means we are looking down Stewart Road in the second picture.

So the low rise building was actually the pre-cursor to the current AXA Centre. I can't find any information about it so can only assume it was just a row of shophouses like the ones that can be seen on the other side of Stewart Road. Anyway, it must have been knocked down not long after because the AXA Centre was built in 1982.
