After buying their air tickets at the plaza the other day, the pair head to the airport for their trip to Bali. This is when Ka Kui is taken off the plane on the premise of a problem with their passports, but in fact, his former police bosses want him back on the force to work the bomb case. As he returns to get May, he reaslies the plane is already leaving. Sadly, Dragonair is no longer with us - it was absorbed into Cathay Pacific and renamed Cathay Dragon, but was one of the larger victims of the Hong Kong shutdown due to Covid in 2020.

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - Shek Kip Mei Park, Kowloon
Little did I know that 30+ years ago when I was watching Jonathan Ross's Son of the Incredibly Strange Film Show on TV, that one day I would be living just up the road from where the famous playground fight was filmed. In the Ross documentary, this scene is shown as the presenter makes a joke about Jackie and his fellow opera students having great fights in the playground.
Anyway, Andi has already done a great scene comparison over on his blog, but here a some choice screen grabs below asa reminder.

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - Tuen Mun Town Plaza, Tuen Mun
The mall where the first bomb threat takes place is the Tuen Mun Town Plaza. The interior scenes were filmed at the mall, but the exterior shots appear to have been done on a specially built set/building facade which was then blown up for the film. I haven't been able to track that place down yet,so I'm not sure if it was even nearby. The decor of the plaza is very reminiscent of Shatin's New Town plaza when I first visited the place in the mid-90s, complete with brown tiling and the musical water display, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was the same developer who built both malls.

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - View of Causeway Bay
So, Ka Kui causes a right old mess with his bust up at the cafe and resigns from the police force. Later that day, he and May ride the Star Ferry and decide to go on holiday. I'm not familiar with the old Star ferry schedules but in order to get the view seen below the ferry would've had to travel from North Point to Tsim Sha Tsui or similar route. The Citizen advert is on top of Elizabeth House, these days the same place is occupied by a large sign for Panasonic. What looks like a dimly lit ferry pier in the foreground is actually Kellet Island and the Yacht Club.

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - Gloucester Road, Hong Kong
Ka Kui is told by May's aunt that the gang are across the road keeping an eye on them. However, "across the road" in this movie means several miles away across the harbour on Hong Kong Island. Ka Kui then proceeds to jaywalk across Gloucester Road to reach Harcourt House where the gang are eating in a cafe on the ground floor.
Ka Kui gets hit by a van on the slip road that runs alongside the main highway. It looks like - given the amount of damage it gets - the cafe was a studio mockup. The space where it was has since been occupied by several car dealerships including Mazda, Ford, VW, and is currently occupied by Lexus.

The HK Academy of Performing Arts is in the background

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - Miami Mansion, Waterloo Road
After being harassed at her own apartment, May goes to stay with her aunt, but it turns out they have followed her there as well. Hong Kong has at least two Miami Mansions - there's also one in Causeway Bay - but this one is located on Waterloo Road between Boundary Street and Prince Edward Road West, right behind St Teresa's Church.

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - Royal Villa, Happy View Terrace
This is the location of May's apartment where they are first harassed by Chu Tou's men and May accidentally soaks Ka Kui when she throws water off her balcony at them.

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - Tai Po Industrial Estate, Tai Po
This is where Jackie is seen directing traffic immediately after the incident with the speeding trucks. Funnily enough, Dai Fu Street is the exact same place where Chan was hanging onto the bus by the umbrella in the first Police Story.

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - Tolo Highway, Tai Po
After issuing a bunch of tickets to the bus drivers, Ka Kui can be seen driving along a highway before being directed by the dispatcher to another traffic incident. This scene was filmed along the Tolo Highway driving towards Tai Po. The buildings on the ridge in the background belong to the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Police Story 2 - Jackie Chan (1988) - Fanling Highway, Kwu Tung
Having decided to examine Police Story 2 as my first film for 2023 I can get quickly started with the opening scene as newly demoted cop, Ka Kui (Jackie Chan), is now on traffic duty thanks to the wanton damage he caused at the end of the first film, Police Story. He's spotted some speeding trucks and manages to pull them all over and issue them with tickets.
The trucks are speeding west along the Fanling Highway at Kwu Tung. In the top image you can see the pedestrian bridge next to the small Kam Tsin Village Ho Tung School. Both the bridge and school are still around.
There was obviously lots of to'ing and fro'ing whilst shooting this scene because when we first spot Jackie on his motorbike he is due west of the trucks, observing all the shenanigans from the nearby intersection at Pak Shek Au. But when the trucks pass they are heading east- the opposite direction to where they were going in the first place. I've set the place marker for this post on the pedestrian bridge location.
