Casse-tête chinois pour le Judoka - Marc Briand (1967) - Kau U Fong, Central

Kau U Fong features briefly in a scene where Marc (Marc Briand) is wandering around the streets. In the shot below he is at the junction with Aberdeen Street with what was originally the Central Clinic behind him. By the time of this film though, the building was already been used by the Central District Kaifong Welfare Association. I think the clinic may have been operating at the same time though. The small building was demolished circa 1997 and the site currently hosts the Lan Kwai Fong Hotel.

Foxbat - Henry Silva (1977) - Aberdeen Street, Central

As A-Cheung drives his stolen ambulance down Hollywood Road, Saxon tries to cut him off by taking the higher road and turning into Aberdeen Street. I'm not certain, but I suspect this may have been the only time double-decker bus has driven down this street - it's gradient isn't really conducive to a safe journey, especially when you consider how awful at driving most HK bus drivers tend to be (their feet are either on the accelerator or the brake - often in quick succession).

Anyway, the buildings at the side are the Police Married Quarters that have been recently re-adapted as the PMQ.

That's the junction with Hollywood Road at the bottom, the last time we saw this place on here it was when Burt Kwouk was racing down it on a Dairy Farm ice cream vending motorbike as Kato in the Revenge of the Pink Panther - filmed a year later in 1978.

Push - Chris Evans (2009) - Gough Street, Central

As a plan starts to form the intrepid good guys bid their farewells at the corner of Gough Street and Aberdeen Street. The building in the background of the top picture is Tung Tze Terrace at #6 Aberdeen Street.

Knock Off - Jean Claude Van Damme (1997) - Lin Heung Tea House, Wellington Street

The eating scene in this movie was filmed at a bona fide HK establishment called Lin Heung (蓮香樓). I've never eaten there but it always seems to make it into the guide books for its authentic Hong Kong eating experience. It may be the only place left that allows the old blokes to hang their bird cages from the ceiling while they eat (there was another similar place in Mong kok often used by filmmakers - e.g. John Woo in Hard Boiled - that went under the wrecking ball when the Langham Place mall was built).

The restaurant is on the corner of Wellington Street and Aberdeen Street but these days seem to just be listed as the Lin Heung Bakery, so I'm not sure if the restaurant itself has moved or not? I'll assume not because it looks as though the steps up the to first floor restaurant (top picture) are still accessible. Writing about this is making me feel hungry, so I may venture out this way next week and see if it has changed.

Revenge of the Pink Panther - Peter Sellers (1978) - Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan

The next part of our car/dairy farm ice cream vending motorbike/taxi chase scene sees the vehicles driving rather fast down Aberdeen Street and onto Hollywood Road where they turn east and head back towards Central. Thankfully, this place seems to have not aged a single bit and most of the buildings look to still be the same ones.

On the right hand side of Aberdeen Street is the former Police Married Quarters - which have been 'revitalised' into a creative design centre called PMQ.
