Bullet for Hire - Simon Yam (1991) - Hebe Haven Yacht Club

Boss has ordered another rival killed and Ngok is disguised as a waiter to initiate the killing. Meanwhile Han and Shan are nearby to provide cover. However, it's actually a setup by Interpol to help Ngok escape in return for him giving evidence against his boss. The location is the Hebe Haven Yacht Club.

Still living it up on their earnings, the boys take a boat out onto the waters of Hebe Haven in Sai Kung.

Company - Ajay Devgan (2002) - Kau Sai San Tsuen, Sai Kung

Chandu and his girlfriend have rented a small house out in Hebe Haven in Sai Kung. It took a bit of hunting but it looks like this property is #110 Kai Sau San Tsuen (though the Govt mapping website lists the address as 110 Pak Sha Wan). The open view down to the harbour from the front window though is now obscured because in the years since the film was made, another house has been built right smack bang in front of it.

This is also where Chandu and his girlfriend have to flee from when Mallik sends his goons after them.

Sadly, the Google marker facility on Blogger is so poor that the house doesn't even show up on the map, so instead I have tagged the carpark you can see on the right in the image below and you can try and work it out for yourself from there. On an aside, the Geoinfo map provided by the Govt mapping service has an updated 3D view of the whole territory, much better than what is currently available on GoogleEarth, so for places like Sai Kung (which has no 3D at all on GE) this is a really useful tool, although it takes a while to load the 3D.

Angel Force - Moon Lee (1991) - Hebe Haven, Sai Kung

After spending most of the last hour or so in Thailand, the movie switches back to Hong Kong for its denouement as the remainder of the team find out who the mole was that has been betraying them from the get go. The scene starts with Moon jumping down on to Hiram's Highway. The location is at the bottom of the steps from the Pak Sha Wan Village Hall. The brickwork at the side of the road looks the same today.

She then runs across the the boatsheds that line the waterfront and this is where the final fight takes place. From the signage and size of the shed it looks like it might be "Regatta Yachts" today. But that's just a guess. Feel free to let me know in the comments if you know the exact location.

Black Cobra Woman - Laura Gemser (1976) - Hebe Haven, Sai Kung

After arriving at their destination, Eva lures Julius out to an uninhabited island so she can put her revenge plan into action. These shots were all filmed in Hebe Haven in Sai Kung.

Weiße Fracht für Hongkong - Dietmar Schönherr (1963) - Fei Ngo Shan Road, Kowloon

Fei Ngo Shan is the Chinese name for Kowloon Peak. If you ever get the chance to get up here then it is well worth the effort because of the views from the ridge over Kowloon to the south and the New Territories to the north.

The top picture shows the view to the north, taking in a large area of Sai Kung including the Ho Chung valley (the flat bit right of middle), Hebe Haven (the bit of enclosed water just beyond Ho Chung) and Port Shelter and beyond that even further the High Island area before it became a reservoir..

The road forms a hairpin bend at this section as it moves from the north side of the ridge to the south, and from here we get the views over to Kowloon. In the top picture you can see pretty much all of the Kowloon peninsula including the Kai Tak runway sticking out into the bay and Stonecutter Island on the other side  (top right). The double-pointed hill between the actors in the second picture is actually Lion Rock with Beacon Hill beyond and to its left. Actually, you can get fairly similar views even today because most of the change has occurred away from the slopes of the hills.

Foxbat - Henry Silva (1977) - Hebe Haven, Sai Kung

The master villain (Roy Chiao) is caught up with at Hebe Haven as he tries to make his escape by boat. This is the eastern side of the bay where the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club is located - at the end of Che Keng Tuk Road.

Boarding Gate - Asia Argento (2007) - Man Kung Road, Sai Kung

After being drugged at a club, Sandra wakes up at a mysterious house owned by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth! In the film she is playing a local business women who has agreed to help Sandra start a new life in China.

This one was tricky to nail down but I think I may have stumbled on a bit of good luck because it looks like the house used was one just off Man Kung Road near Hebe Haven. That's Marina Cove in the background of the third picture below.

Just in the near background of the second picture is the roofs of some houses that are part of a small private house development called "Villa Chrysanthemum". This means the house used for filming was most likely one called "Archivilla". It appears to be part of a three house development that also includes "Hebe Haven" and "Casa de Corsino" but is the only one with a pool.

The question now is...who normally lives there? Answers at the bottom please ;-)

Kill a Dragon - Jack Palance (1967) - Ma Nam Wat Village, Sai Kung

To break up the Yellowthread Street posts a bit (because, like I Spy, there will be quite a few) here is another offering from the 1960's starring Jack Palance as a sort of mercenary with a heart. Some really good and interesting places to see in this film, including the location of the main village that features in the film.

The film starts with a nice panning shot across the water of what is the small inlet that sits between Trio Beach and the Tai Ngam Hau peninsula. The camera then settles on the village (Chinese name: 麻南笏村) that sits on the north shore line of the headland.

The village is now largely abandoned but I have no idea how long it has been like that. The area is popular with walkers and so the area still sees a lot of activity and it seems as though some Spanish-style village houses have popped up so I am sure someone must still be there. Look at the following shots and you will see the village Tin Hau Temple. Is it still there? This building features quite prominently in the film so it would be nice to know it still stands...

The view below is looking east from the shoreline over towards what would be Marina Cove area in the distance. Trio Beach is hidden by the coast that juts out behind the white launch.
