Bullet for Hire - Simon Yam (1991) - Ice House Street, Central

Later that night, Han takes Shan out to spend some of their earnings. Their car, a rather nice looking Porsche 928, can be seen driving down Lower Albert Road before turning into Ice House Street next to the Fringe Club.

The Dragon from Russia - Sam Hui (1990) - Queen's Road Central, Central

We stay on Queen's Road Central for the next location but move down to the junction with Ice House Street as Yao and Teddy make their getaway on a motorbike. The old Govt West Wing building seen in the back of the top and bottom images is still around (renamed to Justice Place West Wing) but the Sing Pao Centre, seen at the back right of the bottom image, has since been redeveloped into 8 Queen's Road Central.

Election - Simon Yam (2005) - Ice House Street, Central

When the leadership has been decided, Lok (Simon Yam) as the victor, extends an olive branch to Big D and coaxes hims into his car so they can talk business. This puts the two warring factions - each loyal to either Lok or Big D - on tenterhooks as both groups follow the car around, scared that the drive will end in a blood bath. As it turns out, the two rivals stop the car and head off to talk business. The main road used for this clip is Ice House Street.

The beginning of the Ice House Street sequence (top two images) was filmed on the section located between Chater Road and Des Voeux Road. The lower two images, which are at the end of the scene, was filmed on the section between Des Voeux Road and Queen's Road and so should really have been seen first in the sequence (because Ice House Street is one way).

Hong Kong (series) - Rod Taylor (1960) - Edinburgh House, Central

One of the establishing shots from episode 11, Nine Lives, is some footage at the junction Queen's Road Central and Ice House Street. A building called York House now stands on the corner in the background but when this series was shot it was the curved corner of Edinburgh House. The "P.G" sign in the background left was the Parisian Grill on Queen's Road Central. The same clip was used again in Episode 15: Lesson in Fear.

Largo Winch - Tomer Sisley (2008) - Ice House Street, Central

The car chase ends in Ice House Street where it is then replaced by a good old foot chase running through the walkways of Central. But before we get there, here are the Ice House Street grabs. Streetview gives us reasonable matches on the camera angles.

Shatter - Stuart Whitman (1974) - Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong

Time to clear up some of the identifications that were eluding me. This one is courtesy of Thomas Ngan who spotted the window of the West Wing of the Central Govt Offices on Ice House Street in the background. Here's a reminder.

The red building at the back is a mystery and is the current site of 8 Queens Rd Central. But look to the left and you can see the window that Thomas was talking about. The Streetview grab below confirms this is the corner of Ice House Street.

But what about that red building? I still have no idea but a search of 8 Queen's Road Central brought up the following business card for an old furniture store - was this the same building?

I must admit the building's colour is quite striking, so I am sure there is someone out there who must be able to remember what it was. If so please feel free to leave me a comment. In the meantime, once again thanks to Thomas for lending me his eagle eyes.

Forced Vengeance - Chuck Norris (1982) - Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong

In one of the scenes when the guys are trying to find a hiding place, we get a few shots of various places around Hong Kong - as seems to be the norm with these chase sequences. Unfortunately, I can't identify some of the more obscure places but this following one should be fairly familiar with anyone who has visited.

It's Des Voeux Road Central at the junction with Ice House Street and hasn't changed much to this day. The bridge in the background is still around (though perhaps slightly remodeled), New Henry House on the left is pretty much as it is today as is the square windowed building behind the walkway (Gloucester Tower). But the facade immediately behind the tram is the Bank of East Asia, and it looks like the film crew caught it just as that particular frontage was just completed (the concrete looks a bit fresh).

Anyway, you can judge for yourself by looking at the following Streetview capture. What is nice to see in the above pictures though is that the single deck tram carriages were still in use at the time.
