Pedicab Driver - Sammo Hung (1989) - Jardim de Luís de Camões, Macau

The next location we arrive at is Jardim de Luís de Camões. I know for sure most people reading this will know that this is the location for the famous "No Dogs or Chinese" scene from Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury. The difference here is that in Pedicab Driver we are seeing those famous park gates from the inside rather than the outside.

The Last Time I Saw Macao - João Rui Guerra da Mata (2012) - Jardim de Luís de Camões, Macau

We've been here before, many years ago, when it was a stand-in for the Huang Pu Park in Shanghai. Nothing quite so spectacular this time though as we just get a few shots inside the park of old people exercising and taking their caged birds for some fresh air.

Fist of Fury - Bruce Lee (1972) - Jardim de Luís de Camões, Macau

Fist of Fury was one of the very first films shot at Golden Harvest's newly acquired studios in Diamond Hill. The premises were previously owner by Cathay who had just gone out of business. For the outdoor scenes - in an attempt to represent Shanghai at the early part of the 20th Century - the film crew moved to Macau.

The following scene was filmed at Jardim de Luís de Camões but was meant to be Huangpu Park which had a famous sign banning various things including the local Chinese. Of course to get the locals patriotic hearts thumping some massive artistic license was taken on the part of the film makers (by placing the Chinese on the same level as dogs) - the effect was to launch Bruce Lee further into super stardom, so the cynical ploy paid off.

The park hasn't changed at all - the gates and gate posts still look as they did back in 1971.
