The Taxi Driver - David Chiang (1975) - Lion Rock Tunnel Road, Shatin

Chen is out on a date with his girlfriend when he sees To Fat getting into a squabble with another driver. This was filmed on a former layby on the Lion Rock Tunnel Road right next to where World Wide Gardens now stands. The area where the layby was is now taken up by the circular entrance ramp connecting Hung Mui Kuk Road to Lion Rock Tunnel Road. The reason for the layby - and if you are paying attention, the car park on the opposite side of the road - is because this place was, and still is, the main access points for the trail up to Amah rock.

Hong Kong 73 - Yueh Hua (1974) - Lion Rock Tunnel Road, Shatin

After turning back on their journey to Stanley, the group then head back through the Lion Rock Tunnel towards Fanling. It's here where they are told there is also congestion in that direction as well!

The initial image below shows Lion Rock, but it's a view not many people are familiar with because it's from the Shatin-side of the hills. As the camera zooms out, you can see that we are at the tunnel toll booths. The booths are still marked on Google Maps but were removed circa 2023 when the Govt implemented a fully comprehensive electronic tagging system for vehicles entering/leaving the tunnel. The same system has been applied across Hong Kong which is why you no longer have to stop to pay a toll on the way to/from the airport.

This last image was taken on the Shatin-end of Lion Rock Tunnel Road where it intersected with Tai Po Road. Turn left and you head back to Kowloon, turn right and the road takes you past Shatin. The cars in the backgrpund are on the Tai Po Road, but behind them would be where the KCR rail line ran alongside the road. For modern context, this area is more or less the same one where Lion Rock Tunnel Road ends today, at the junction with Tai Po Road - Tai Wai section, but closer to the "Scenery Court" development. 

Bruce Lee & I - Betty Ting Pei (1976) - Lion Rock Tunnel Road exit ramp, Kowloon

At the end of the film we see Betty wandering aimlessly and for some strange unfathomable reason, walking up the exit ramp towards Lion Rock Tunnel Road. Coincidentally (or not...really), this circular exit ramp that takes traffic just exiting from the tunnel into Kowloon down onto Lung Cheung Road just happens to be situated right next door to where the old TVB studios were on Broadcast Drive. In fact the whole thing sits above what is now known as Broadcast Drive Garden.

On the screen grabs you can see the undulating ridgeline of Beacon Hill in the low background (look closely enough and you might be able to make out the older - now defunct - Civil Aviation Department radar dome).

Had the camera panned to the right you would have seen the old TVB studios. TVB was of course created by Sir Run Run Shaw and the studios were based here on Broadcast Drive from 1967 to 1984 when they moved over to Movietown in Clearwater Bay. All of Bruce's Enjoy Yourself Tonight appearances would have been at these studios on Broadcast Drive. Streetview below.
