The Fighting Dragon - Yasuaki Kurata (1975) - The Peak Tram

Following a fight in an unknown village (I haven't been able to identify it yet, some rural places are just impossible to find), Lung gives chase to "Red Scorpion" and follows him to the Peak Tram. We see a little bit of the inside of the lower terminus as well as some footage of the tram trundling uphill. Lung tries to follow but has to catch a cab to the top instead (and no doubt was forced to pay the illegal surcharge that lots of HK cabbies try to foist on unsuspecting tourists).

Karate from Shaolin Temple - Kazuma Kenji (1976) - The Peak Tram

Following Reiko's return from Macau, Wu meets up with her to find out if she was able to get any information out of Musashi. They travel on the Peak Tram. I expect the marker to be snapping to nearby buildings rather than to the Peak Tram track.

Crossing Hennessy - Jacky Cheung (2010) - Unnamed Clearing next to the Peak Tram

I've kept this location separate because I can't quite figure out if it has a name, or is perhaps part of Chatham Path that runs in a rather higgledy piggledy manner between May Road and Barker Road. Anyway, this is seen during one of Loy's dream sequences when he is dreaming about chatting with his deceased father. The location is more or less directly opposite the tennis court of Po Garden, so it's also possible that this is an extension of the podium of Grenville House. I doubt Google will let me place a marker where I want it to (it keeps snapping back to May Road or Grenville House), so here is a GoogleEarth link just to be clear.

Crossing Hennessy - Jacky Cheung (2010) - The Peak Tram

Loy decides to get himself into shape and starts jogging in the morning instead of his usual lying in. He jogs mostly around the Peak and in one scene we can see him from the back of the Peak Tram as he tries to run up the stairs at May Road.

International Prostitution: Brigade criminelle - Jean-Louis Broust (1980) - The Peak Tram

I recently went on here twice after a break of around 10 years. It was recently upgraded (along with the price) so I thought I would give it a revisit. Suffice to say it has lost its allure for me and a much more enjoyable ride, with equally marvellous views, can be had by catching the #15 bus instead (also cheaper). Anyway, Dega meets up with Tazzi here to discuss tactics for getting Marcone. I must admit that at this time of year in Hong Kong (winter, as I type), the views to be had from the peak tram are about the same quality as the ageing VHS scan I took the screen shots from. The pollution is now back at pre-Covid levels. Be warned, if you want a better chance of views, come between May and September.

Yellow Emanuelle - Chai Lee (1977) - The Peak

Next up the pairhead up the Peak via the Peak Tram. The quality of this pint is pretty good so the views are reasonably detailed.

Blade in Hong Kong - Terry Lester (1985) - The Peak Tram

There are some views of the Peak Tram track in the opening montage as well. Funnily enough, the tram has only just reopened after closing for an upgrade earlier in 2022. New trams have been introduced which means these green ones seen below are now two tram generations ago. The lower image shows the view from Findlay Path next to Lion Pavilion.

Asia-Pol Secret Service - Wang Yu (1966) - Upper Peak Tram Terminus

We've seen the later incarnations of the upper terminus from the current "flying wok" to its UFO like predecessor. I believe that the version you can see in this film was built in the 1920s and lasted all the way until the 70s when it was replaced by the aforementioned UFO shaped viewing tower.

Asia-Pol Secret Service - Wang Yu (1966) - View over Central

After escaping their pursuer, the pair board the peak tram and it's here where they find they have something in common. The scene starts with a great view across Central from above the Peak Tram railway from what looks to be the May Road bridge looking down to the bridge at Magazine Gap Road/Bowen Road. There's lots to see such as the older version of Estoril Court (the kinked high rise on the left), Brewin Court (this side and left of the bridge) as well as the old Commodore's House at 5 Bowen Road (partially hidden by the trees on the right).

Love Circles - Michelle Siu (1985) - Peak Tramway, Central

We get to see a large part of the Peak Tramway as Ko-ko recounts (in flashback) the tale of how the journalist started following her. We see her enter the station at the Peak and ride the tram down to the lower tram terminus before she gets off and walks away. The first image shows the upper terminus with Mount Austin Road going uphill in the background.

Then we get some tram car interiors as she tells how some creepy dude was taking her pictures on the way down.

 Finally, Kok-ko gets off at the lower terminus and heads across the road.

Hong Kong (series) - Rod Taylor (1960) - Barker Road Peak Tram Stop, The Peak

Another of the series' establishing shots was filmed inside the Barker Road Peak Tram Stop. It's a more substantial stop than most on the line and therefore has been the one that has been filmed the most - so far it has been seen in about 6 movies included on this blog.

Harry's Hong Kong - David Soul (1987) - The Peak, Hong Kong

Harry goes up to the peak to meet his journalist girlfriend, so we get some shots of the tram before the pair head over to the Lion's Club Pavilion.

Narazumono - Ken Takakura (1964) - The Peak, Hong Kong

Unfortunately the plot (in Japanese with French subtitles) was a bit lost on me, but I get the feeling that the Japanese lady is a drug runner who is getting Minami to do some of her dirty work without him realising. She is in cahoots with a Chinese man who she goes to the Peak to meet with. We get a few shots of the Peak Cafe (still going) as well as some other shots of the area including a quick glimpse of the Victoria Gap Lookout that once stood at the bottom of Mount Austin Road (it was demolished in the 70s, probably to make way for the previous version of the Peak Tower), followed by a trip back down the mountainside on the Peak Tram.
