Ghost in the Shell - Scarlett Johansson (2017) - The Centre, Central

The exterior of the HANKA HQ was the Lippo Centre, but the foyer scene was filmed at The Centre - the same place where Batman : The Dark Knight Rises was filmed a few years ago.

My original screencaps for this film were done from a TV screen so the quality wasn't good enough to include this rather impressive helicopter (or perhaps drone) shot over Central.

The Centre, where all the lobby shots were filmed, can be seen on the left of screen. But the buildings used for the actual office from where Batman kidnaps the crooked Chinese accountant, Lau, were the towers of the International Finance Centre. So Batman launches from 2 IFC (centre right, lower picture) and grabs Lau from the smaller IFC tower (centre screen).

Chinese Box - Jeremy Irons (1997) - The Centre, Central

A particularly poignant film to watch at the moment given what is going on with the city's struggle for genuine democracy. I wasn't here for the handover, although I did stay up and watch events as they were being broadcast in the UK and this film blends drama with real documentary footage from the time.

Before we get to that though here is the very first shot that shows a large skyscraper under construction. The building in question is in fact The Centre - the tall building that featured (or at least the foyer) in The Dark Knight.

Anyway, the building was started in 1995 and finally opened in 1998, so the filmmakers got it pretty much mid-construction. The initial screencaps look as though the camera was placed on either Wellington Street or Gage Street looking down the gap in the buildings made by Graham Street (please correct me if I am wrong). Look carefully at the lower part of the screencap and you can just make out the top corner of the Haleson Building which stands between The Centre and Central Market.

There's also a later night shot that has been taken from a different angle (possibly further east and south?).

The Dark Knight - Christian Bale (2008) - The Centre, Central

Even though it is the International Finance Centre tower (that's the smaller one of the two) that we know is the HQ of the Chinese criminal (played by Chin Han) and the one that Batman crashes through the window to capture him, it was another building that served as the lobby for the earlier scenes when Morgan Freeman plants the cellphone in the security desk. It was also this other building that we see a police van head towards as the police arrive on the scene to deal with The Batman.

The building in question is The Centre (中環中心) and isn't that far away from the IFC in all honesty - just a few hundred yards at most.
