Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - Adam Baldwin (2000) - Junction of Pedder Street and Des Voeux Road Central

Another one of the travelogue-style transitional shots shows some trams making their way down the tracks along Hong Kong Island. This location is the section of Des Voeux Road Central where it intersects with Pedder Street. In the distant background can be seen the pedestrian walkway that crosses the road between Central Market and the Hang Seng HQ, and the stepped/tiered building further on is the China Insurance Group Building (at 141 DVRC). Although it looks like it may have been under scaffolding at the time for a facelift?

China Insurance Group Building was likely being clad with its current aluminum skin around the time of filming. It was originally called the International Building. I can't remember when it took its current name, could have been during the time of the facelift.

There were several doctors' offices in there in the 1980s and the ground floor shop that fronted Gilman Street was a Maxim's fast food joint. A Fairwood is in the basement shop fronting Connaught Road Central these days.

Hi Rodney, aha, sounds like a winner. It was definitely having some sort of major facelift done, wasn't it, so that sounds most likely.
