Je l'aimais - Daniel Auteuil (2009) - Mid-Levels Escalator, Central

Here's the last one from Je L'aimais for the time being. It is just a brief shot of part of the mid-levels escalators. Although I don't use this thing at all and am not really that familiar I think that the top image was shot near the steps from Caine Road (they're the only ones I can see that lead up on the right hand side) and the lower images was most likely filmed along the Staunton Street entrance.

Je l'aimais - Daniel Auteuil (2009) - Peel Street, Midlevels

One of the more frequently occurring incidental locations in this film is the upper section of Peel Street where the Mid-levels escalator runs up over Mosque Junction. Several times the actors were filmed walking up and down the steps here. The impression seems to be that the steps are close to Mathilde's apartment, but we already know that place is miles away in North Point.

Strangers - John Simm (2018) - Mid-Levels Escalator, Central

One of the buildings Sally Porter passes as she is being followed is the Man Hing Commercial Building along Queen's Road Central, right next to the old Central market (top image). She then heads up onto the mid-levels escalator before getting off at the Gage Street exit (lower image). She's eventually grabbed a few metres down the road opposite the Park N Shop.

Hong Kong 97 - Robert Patrick (1994) - Lyndhurst Terrace, Central

The tiled pillars in the background here are the ones that hold up the Mid-levels escalator where it crosses Lyndhurst Terrace at the junction with Cochrane/Gage Streets. Nothing seems to have changed much here other than the usual cycle of opening and closing of various establishments but those of who who have read my Chinese Box posts will know that one of the old blocks at the corner of Cochrane St (i.e. this spot) has since been replaced.

Chinese Box - Jeremy Irons (1997) - Cochrane Street, Central

Jeremy Irons' flat in the film appears to be looking out onto Cochrane Street next to the mid-levels escalator. Judging from the angle it looks as though the building has now gone and been replaced with the corner construction on the junction with Gage Street that currently houses a Pizza Express (at least at the time of writing).

Actually, this view is just a few very short steps away from The Dark Knight scene filmed on the walkway above Gage Street.

The Dark Knight - Christian Bale (2008) - Midlevels Escalator, Lyndhurst Terrace

This is another scene that made big news in the local papers, however, for some unknown reason The HK Standard now limits its archive to the previous 4 years (previously we could browse articles from about 1994 onward) and so I can't link to anything useful anymore.

Never mind, this following scene filmed on the section of the Midlevel's escalator was actually done with several thousand people all gathered around the road below taking snap shots of the two stars Christian Bale and Morgan Freeman.

The road below them is Lyndhurst Terrace and Gage Street. In fact, there is the odd amateur film on YouTube of Morgan Freeman doing a walkabout along part of Gage Street, but I'm not sure that was filmed or if it was it didn't seem to make the final cut.
