Yakuza on Foot - Tomisaburô Wakayama (1969) - Reclamation Street, Yau Ma Tei

One of the first clear images we have (once the opening credits have finished) is of the trio as they walk north along the middle section of Reclamation Street. The rickety old building behind them with the curved corner once occupied the plot where the Kansu Street Jade Hawker Bazaar stood until a few years ago. People with good memories might recall that there was a better capture of this place in Asia-Pol Secret Service. People with even better memories may also recall that the block is also the same one featured in the opening scenes of Enter the Dragon, although by the time of that last shot, the curved end of the building had already been demolished. Incidentally, this location was also used in Narazumono, although in that film we are looking in the opposite direction. In hindsight, I should have named all those other posts as 'Reclamation Street', because it's as clear as daylight in the following screencaps. However, this section of Reclamation Street no longer exists, the area is now just a turning circle for the top end of Battery Street. I created an entry for it on Gwulo and some additional information was added by David Bellis.

Peninsula - Gang Dong-won (2020) - Reclamation Street, Mongkok

This is the street location used to show where Jung-seok lives. It's shown as several gang members make their way to his apartment to take him to see their boss.

This is the section of Reclamation Street just north of Argyle Street in Mongkok. The shot starts looking up at some of the buildings on the west side of the street (we're looking south in this brief sequence) before panning down to street level. As a great example of how things often look very different on film, I often catch the bus home from the bus stop at the bottom of those buildings and am here quite often. However, I still had to search for where the "H1 Hotel" is (you can see it in the background) in order to find the location.

Asia-Pol Secret Service - Wang Yu (1966) - Battery Street, Yau Ma Tei

Wang Yu finds the girl and together they walk through the streets to try and lose the bad guy that is following them. This shot below was taken at the northern limit of Battery Street/Reclamation Street. The curved building in the background is the tip of the same block of rickety buildings that appear in the opening sequence of Enter the Dragon. By the time of filming Enter the Dragon though, the large end curve section had already been demolished. Right of frame is what looks like a new construction and this was the start of the Yau Ma Tei Polyclinic that still sits there today. The curved block today is the Kansu Street Jade Market. The shot was taken close to the junction with Public Square Street looking south.

The Mole Song: Hong Kong Capriccio - Toma Ikuta (2016) - Reclamation Street, Yau Ma Tei

The ultimate crash location of the plane turns out to be Reclamation Street. The plane has in fact crashed into the ground floor of Kam Shan Dai Lau on the corner of Reclamation/Pak Hoi Streets. This view is looking south down Reclamation Street from about the midway point along this stretch of the road next to the Yau Ma Tei Market building. The building that can just be glimpsed on the far right (with its red stripes) is the Luen Tak Building all the way down on the south side of Jordan Road.

Narazumono - Ken Takakura (1964) - Battery Street, Yau Ma Tei

After escaping the hotel where he has been set up, Minami heads out into the street to avoid the police and ends up next to a street market. The area is the top end of Battery and Reclamation Streets where they both merge and meet Public Square Street. We know this because the building in the back right with the white trim used to stand on the north east corner of the junction between Shanghai Street and Public Square Street. The open area on the right with the market stalls is now the Henry G Leong YMT Community Centre.

Ghost in the Shell - Scarlett Johansson (2017) - Pak Hoi St, Yau Ma Tei

At the time of filming, the local papers were reporting that there was some taking place on Pak Hoi Street in Yau Ma Tei. The local production company tried to deflect interest by announcing the shooting would take place with doubles and, although doubles were present, lots of shots were done using the main stars.

This particular butchers stall is a real one at the junction with Reclamation Street. and other than the odd stallholder and overlayed blue writing, looks pretty much as it does in real life. This is the shop where Batou buys bones for his adopted dogs.

This scene is immediately preceded by a shot taken at the junction with Shanghai Street with Pak Hoi Street leading away (to the east) behind the actors back towards the butchers stall.

The Million Eyes of Sumuru - George Nader (1967) - Kansu Street, Yau Ma Tei

Here is a nifty one identified by Arthur thanks to his tracking down of a former tea shop that was once on Reclamation Street. The shop in question was called 寶蘭生 (Bo Lan Sang) and can be seen on the screencaps below as the white-signed shop next to the corner yellow one.

Arthur found a reference to the shop being on Reclamation Street but no mention of specifics, however, the curve of the street that is obvious from the film can only be found on one particular section of the road and it is the section between Kansu Street and Public Square Street.

We've actually seen this section of Kowloon before, although it was several years later by which time the block with the yellow corner shop had been completely razed and flattened leaving open space. In case you need reminding here is the other film shot I am talking about. It's one of the opening credit scenes from Enter The Dragon.

The empty space in the front of the Enter the Dragon screen shot is where the block with the yellow shop used to stand, and the old decrepit block with the wooden poles holding it up can be seen on the very left of the first Sumuru screencap above - in fact it was even being held up by wooden struts back then! These days the old decrepit block has been replaced by the YMT Jade Hawker bazaar and the empty space now holds one of the upright supports for the West Kowloon Corridor flyover.

Push - Chris Evans (2009) - Soy Street, Mongkok

One of the group's safe houses (whilst Kira is being "shadowed" to keep her under the radar of the sniffers etc) is what looks to be a love hotel room on the corner of Reclamation Street and Soy Street. I didn't have much to go on other than the presence of a sign for a metal works shop down on the street, but after a bit of digging around I found the right spot. 

You can see the street signs seen on film are also on the Streetview capture as well as the 7-11 on the corner (which is the corner with Shanghai Street). The red/yellow one is for an estate agency called Hui Hing (惠興地産) and the red/white one in front provided the small clue to where this location was. The shop is called Kam Yuen Hardware shop (錦源五金). This area around Reclamation street is well known for its hardware stores (which all go by the title of 五金) so it didn't take long to narrow it down.

Anyway, as for the room used in the film, it looks like it was the first floor room of this dodgy looking place (the part with the pink paint job on the exterior wall) at 331 Reclamation Street.

In the film the room has been decorated to look like a love hotel but whether it is or not I have no idea. Given that Streetview was snapped after the film was made, the room seems to have been decorated just for the film but if anyone knows different please let me know - I really don't feel the urge to go and explore this one...
