Yakuza on Foot - Tomisaburô Wakayama (1969) - Reclamation Street, Yau Ma Tei

One of the first clear images we have (once the opening credits have finished) is of the trio as they walk north along the middle section of Reclamation Street. The rickety old building behind them with the curved corner once occupied the plot where the Kansu Street Jade Hawker Bazaar stood until a few years ago. People with good memories might recall that there was a better capture of this place in Asia-Pol Secret Service. People with even better memories may also recall that the block is also the same one featured in the opening scenes of Enter the Dragon, although by the time of that last shot, the curved end of the building had already been demolished. Incidentally, this location was also used in Narazumono, although in that film we are looking in the opposite direction. In hindsight, I should have named all those other posts as 'Reclamation Street', because it's as clear as daylight in the following screencaps. However, this section of Reclamation Street no longer exists, the area is now just a turning circle for the top end of Battery Street. I created an entry for it on Gwulo and some additional information was added by David Bellis.

The Confidence Man JP: The Movie - Masami Nagasawa (2019) - Ning Po Street, Yau Ma Tei

The scammers put part of their confidence plan into practice when they stop their target's car on Ning Po Street next to the junction with Battery Street.

Asia-Pol Secret Service - Wang Yu (1966) - Battery Street, Yau Ma Tei

Wang Yu finds the girl and together they walk through the streets to try and lose the bad guy that is following them. This shot below was taken at the northern limit of Battery Street/Reclamation Street. The curved building in the background is the tip of the same block of rickety buildings that appear in the opening sequence of Enter the Dragon. By the time of filming Enter the Dragon though, the large end curve section had already been demolished. Right of frame is what looks like a new construction and this was the start of the Yau Ma Tei Polyclinic that still sits there today. The curved block today is the Kansu Street Jade Market. The shot was taken close to the junction with Public Square Street looking south.

Narazumono - Ken Takakura (1964) - Battery Street, Yau Ma Tei

After escaping the hotel where he has been set up, Minami heads out into the street to avoid the police and ends up next to a street market. The area is the top end of Battery and Reclamation Streets where they both merge and meet Public Square Street. We know this because the building in the back right with the white trim used to stand on the north east corner of the junction between Shanghai Street and Public Square Street. The open area on the right with the market stalls is now the Henry G Leong YMT Community Centre.

Heisser Hafen Hongkong - Horst Frank (1962) - Lung Yu Restaurant, Kowloon

The Lung Yu restaurant makes another appearance on this blog, this time though it's supposed to be a hotel. If you recall my very first post on this place, back when I was exploring I Spy locations, you'll see that the building it was in (on the corner of Battery Street and Jordan Road) is still around but now houses a bank.

Flatfoot in Hong Kong - Bud Spencer (1975) - Lung Yu Restaurant, Jordan Road

One of the benefits of going back every so often to look at films I covered when I first starting blogging here is that sometimes I see places that I now recognise. Case in point is this brief shot of the Lung Yu Restaurant from Flatfoot in Hong Kong starring Bud Spencer. We don't get to see much other than the dragon effigy above the main doors but it's still fairly recognisable. You can compare it to the shots I posted when it appeared in I Spy and Heisser Hafen Hongkong and Ein Sarg aus Hongkong.

Ein Sarg aus Hong Kong - Heinz Drache (1964) - Jordan Road, Kwun Chung

Here is a place we have seen before. It's the Lung Yu Restaurant along Jordan Road at the junction with Battery Street. We saw it for the first time when I was researching locations for I Spy - filmed the following year in 1965.

I Spy (TV Series) - Robert Culp (1965) - Lung Yu Restaurant, Jordan Road

Here's a place I had no idea existed, but after seeing the screen grabs I am quite taken with the exterior decoration. I can't think of anywhere in HK that is quite as flamboyant as this was with the exception of the Jumbo Kingdom in Aberdeen.

The railings in the middle of the road initially made me think of Nathan Road, but it turns out that this restaurant was in fact on the corner of Jordan Road and Battery Street. The Chinese name of the place was 龍如大酒家 (Lung Yu Restaurant). I'd love to hear comments from anyone that remembers this place. Anyway, it turns out that the building itself is still standing, it's called Booman House and looks pretty much the same minus the various decorations.

It looks as though the block to the left (the empty one we see as the car passes in the screen grabs) was preparing for the construction of #39 - 41 Jordan Road which were completed in 1966 - a year or so after this series was made.
