Visa to Canton - Richard Basehart (1960) - Western Police Station, Sai Ying Pun

On his arrival back in Hong Kong, Jimmy is arrested by the local police on a made up charge, which Benton later finds out was to take him into protective custody. The Police Station he is being held out is supposedly Western Police Station on Des Voeux Road West at the bottom of Western Street. Of course, only the outside is seen on film. Other than a brief glimpse in Double Impact, I don't think this place has been seen in a foreign movie before.

Vengeance - Johnny Hallyday (2009) - Western District Community Centre, Sai Ying Pun

After the hit, one of the assassins is put into a line up for Hallyday to identify, but he has other ideas and the man goes free. Hallyday intends to make him an offer and waits outside the police station for him to leave so he can follow. Although still supposedly in Macau, the "police station" is one we have seen before on the blog and, coincidentally, it was used as a police station then as well. Here's the reminder. The first screengrab is the view up Western Street. The second grab is at the end of the building along Third Street where Hallyday is waiting. Interestingly, it looks like the film makers tried to keep the illusion of it being in Macau by putting a fake Macau-style street sign on the wall. 

Chinese Box - Jeremy Irons (1997) - King's College, Western Street

The official address of King's College is actually Bonham Road, however our view courtesy of the film is of the large double door entrance at the end of the complex along Western Street. The arched doorway at the back is one of several that overlook the inner sports ground.

Here's a Streetview grab of the same door, it looks like it has had a new frame fitted but other than that not much has changed.

The school is one of HK's oldest and most prestigious and has several noted alumni including Stanley Kwan - the creator of HK's famous Hang Seng Index - and the tosspot who masquerades as Hong Kong's current Chief Executive, Leung Chung D7689 (or something like that...).

Noble House (Mini series) - Pierce Brosnan (1988) - Western District Community Centre, Sai Ying Pun

What is supposedly Aberdeen Police Station in the series, is in fact nowhere near Aberdeen but in the middle of Western Hong Kong Island in Sai Ying Pun. Locating this place was made easy by the street sign in the second picture, but this place is quite well-known so it wouldn't have taken too long given the absence of other clues.

The Western District Community Centre started life as a hospital, the old Tsan Yuk Hospital to be precise, built in 1922 and still going strong. You can read more about it on the wiki entry here. It has been given a Grade 3 status which, as you should all know by now, means totally nothing in terms of its ongoing survival.

Double Impact - Jean Claude Van Damme (1991) - Western Street, Hong Kong Island

After the inauguration ceremony, JCVD's parents (with twins on board) head home in their nice car followed closely by Uncle Frank in his red convertible. One of the roads they drive down is De Voeux road West where it intersects with Western St. We know this because we can see Western Police Station in Sai Ying Pun on the corner.

Look closely on a couple of those snaps and you'll see the circular turrets that form part of the external walls to many police stations in HK. The steps in the second screen grab above are of course those of the Police Station entrance. Unfortunately for me the current Streetview image has the Police Station covered in scaffolding getting a facelift so you'll have to take my word that it's the same place.
